Yeah, part of me was thinking who does Minnesota think they can get who's better? But that's really not the point. They can get the same mediocre results a lot cheaper or perhaps get lucky and get better results for the same cost.
Plus Tubby is, well, you know..........old
Detroit Hustles Harder
It's their money and they can do whatever they want; but what they've been doing for a long time hasn't worked as far as producing a consistent winner. Maybe Tubby doesn't have anything left in the tank and I'm cutting him too much slack because of how the spawn of Adolph Rupp ran him out of Lexington. We will see what they do and how it works out but with history as a guide, we should reasonably hope to get two conference wins at their expense in the season after next.
Not sure if posted but really good read in SI about the downfall of Howland. If true I don't blame them.
They did a big piece back in the fall about what a mess UCLA's program was under Howland too. I haven't read this one yet, but i assume it's along the same lines.

Another raise? RT @JonRothstein: BREAKING --- Josh Pastner is staying at Memphis and is no longer a candidate at USC, per a source....

@marcdavissports: Can confirm @WesSR910 report that VCU is working to restructure Shaka Smart's contract and that he wants to stay at VCU
I don't have a clear read on Smart and his personality.
Is he a Few-type guy who's happy to stay and is willing to get a re-work every time his name comes up so he's making nice money at a high-profile mid-major where he's savior and king or is he just biding his time until the "right" big time job comes up? And, if so, what is the "right" job?
At the moment I'd say he's waiting for the right job and that's probably a top tier job.
University of Buffalo just hired Bobby Hurley as head coach.
@GoodmanCBS: Bobby Hurley, former Duke star, has been hired as Buffalo's head coach -- sources told CBSSports --
Well then if what you posted above is correct, neither Minnesota (not a shock) nor UCLA (maybe a little more surprising) don't qualify. He must have a very small top tier.
I don't think he wants to go anywhere where there's even a hint of sanctions. If he moves, he wants to make sure it's a place he knows he can succeed.
The Wake-State matchups next year will be epic.
It is the business walk of the biggest, baddest bear in the national park happening upon an abandoned picnic.
MD football will become Wake basketball if we go like 4-8 this fall and keep the 'goon.
Go away, KA!
Normally I'd consider UCLA top tier but there are rumors of sanctions and they don't support the basketball program like an elite school should. Plus Shaka would have to move cross country and would have to build new relationships.
If VCU got in the BE than I'd say he's in it for the long haul.
Actually, I don't think it would be as bad as Wake hoops. Wake is really setting a standard here.

It's hard to understand. Is their AD bankrupt? It's not even like this has just been a bad start for Bzdelik at Wake. There's nothing in his coaching career that indicates he can win at a decent clip.
According to some Wake fan who discussed this, this is not true.
It's not. Wellman knew of Bzdelik from a time they were both assistants at Northwestern in the 80s, but they didn't speak for decades. Not exactly golfing buddies.
I thought everything was in place to make the move and have Wellman save face now. Thank Bzdelik for laying a foundation, and then bring Tubby Smith back home to NC. Wellman retires, then a new AD comes in, then Tubby retires and the new AD gets to pick a new coach.
Instead, it appears Wellman will "retire" in the near future and Bzdelik will have to be the first change of a new AD. But the reports that Wellman extended Bzdelik's contract turned out to be incorrect.

So what the hell is going on? I know you guys were young, but you've got to believe that this team is pretty far away from making the tournament next year, right? Even an NIT is going to require a half dozen more wins next season. You could be realistically looking at a fourth straight sub-.500 year.

Wake Forest AD Ron Wellman is like the drunk at the blackjack table who won't cut his losses and leave. Column: http://cbsprt.co/11JHuiS
The only logical thing I can come up with is that Wellman plans to retire soon, like this summer. Then the replacement comes in, Bzdelik has a year, and the new AD makes his hire rather than Wellman putting someone new in just as a new AD comes in. I doubt Wellman gets fired, but at age 65 he could retire or "retire" at any time.
But that's putting logic into an illogical situation. It seems more like Wellman sees the potential for a major leap that the rest of us don't see. I was willing to give Bzdelik this year because a roster of mostly players he recruited would likely run his offense better than players recruited to a freestyle offense. But we didn't see that improvement this year.
Now seemed like the right time to give a new coach time to start building the recruiting ties and work with a young team.
Never should have fired Prosser!
I saw a tweet last night that UCLA might want Gottfried.
I have a fever so I'm hoping that was a hallucination on my part.
