At UCLA he will have more tools for success than IOWA. Please stop acting like it is easy to set world on fire at iowa.

Alford must be a better in-game coach than I thought, then.
Howland didn't just get fired because of results. He had kids transferring at a ridiculous rate, he had alienated a bunch of people in southern California because of the Kendall Williams situation and if you can't get Cali kids to UCLA, there's no point in being the coach there anymore. He had to hire an AAU coach from Georgia to get kids there this year, and there's no telling what steps were taken to get Shabazz.
Still wouldn't get him get past the the round of 32.
he has to find a way to bash gary in any thread he can?
This. Alford landed Kendall Williams after Howland pulled his offer so he or someone on his staff probably has Cali connections. Alford probably gained a good amount of goodwill in LA with bringing in Williams and having him flourish at NM. If he can tap into top SoCal talent I think he can do pretty well.
the thing that makes it a bad hire is how ucla made sure to make their search all about finding someone so different from howland...and they bring in a homeless man's version of him
at least he hasn't alienated socal aau and hs people though
People are shitting over this way too much. The issue was firing Howland, not hiring Alford. Alford was just about the best coach they could've gotten in that situation, unless they waited for Marshall, who may have turned it down with the potential sanctions.

Alford came to my high school when I was a freshman to give us a shooting clinic during the Summer. He was actually really friendly, told some cool stories about Bob Knight and made just about every shot he took. That's pretty much all I got.
Jimmy Patsos is a confirmed finalist fo the Siena job, he'll interview on their campus this week. Other two finalists are Andy Toole from Robert Morris and the Associate HC at VCU.
Please STFU, thanks.
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
Exactly. I don't like UCLA and their fans are fairly delusional and fairweather, an interesting combination btw, but Howland deserved to get canned. He delivered good results, especially early on but he was on an extremely slippery slope with regards to recruiting. The players transferred out at a ridiculous rate (we always joked that the MWC was made strong because Ben Howland fucked up so badly) and he had just lost control of the program.
I will say that UCLA is just a toxic situation. The boosters are completely running the ship there and frankly any coach who wants to deal with that has to be a megalomaniac.
Tubby to Texas Tech.
He's better than they deserve.
Agreed. I wasn't following it closely but was it known that he was getting fired? It came completely out of left field for me when I saw it on twitter. Is Minnesota really going to do better?
Apparently they are striving for worse! wtf

Source: Minnesota reached out to Cincinnati's Mick Cronin, but he withdrew from consideration, citing family, commitment to UC.

So I guess this is about Loyola going to the Patriot League (and, I guess, rumors of Siena going to the A10)?
Worst coach ever.
From what I understand, yes. Although part of me wonders why that is such a big deal to Jimmy. If a kid from the Baltimore area is going to sign with Loyola, I wouldn't think playing in the MAAC is a selling point to begin with. Is moving to the Patriot League really going to harm recruiting?
are you mocking me Tabe?
No. He's a garbage coach at a boring, garbage program who plays some of the worst garbage Big East ball out there today. His teams are almost everything that's wrong with basketball and I actively root for him to get fired so we'll have one less coach out there making college basketball hideous. I would watch 10,000 Wisconsin games before a Mick Cronin Cincy game.
Thats what I thought
