You have to count FT misses too. Back then in that era, they would count team rebounds including missed FT's as team rebounds. That inflated the rebounding for the team. For example, Wilt's team is officially listed as having 5916 rebounds but if you add up the rebounds the players on his team got, that only adds up to 5265.
bad shooters (40 FG% average), really high pace (120 possessions per game compared to 90 these days) and no semblance of a structured offense. That's why the numbers in that era are inflated like Wilt's 50 PPG or Oscar's triple double average. If you adjust Oscar's number to the pace these days, his numbers aren't too off from Pippen's numbers.
When Russell started playing basketball, coaches actually instructed their players to not jump to block shots. That's how ignorant they were. Russell was the first of his kind to block shots and use his athleticism.
Pace was much, much higher. It peaked in the mid 80s and is at all time lows now. Guys shot a ridiculously low percentage in the old days. That's why Dantley was so impressive. He had a 64% True Shoot Percentage when his peers were 10% lower. In the 80s, guys shot 25% from 3.
Russell was getting 25RPG, but it wasn't like his % was all that much higher than someone like Rodman.
Can i vote too? If so, I'll get myself on the board ***GiantsNTerps***
***titan*** although he is taking alot of liberties when describing players.
You were a good part of the draft and definitely tried to be unique in your choices. I think you just drafted too many players you never saw play so didn't really know how they would fit together
Like describing dantley as what you want him to be for your team instead of what he actually was.
I think Russell was the big killer. Just not a great fit in this format. Also the lack of a wing who can dominate scoring the ball. Inexperience definitely played a role... admittedly I thought Havlicek was a scorer when I drafted him.
It's all good though, congrats to TitanTerp too. And this was a lot of fun, can't wait to see the rest of the matchups!
titanterp rolls into the next round 8-2
If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?
For future reference, are we counting votes that aren't from judges? Can you vote for yourself?
