It Started! Big South Tournament
Longwood over UNC-Asheville
NCAA Men's Basketball Recap: Final statistics from the Longwood Lancers vs. UNC-Asheville Bulldogs game played on March 05, 2013
kenpom had UNC-A at 92% for that game, so, yeah hello March.
Horizon League also started today.
classlessthug: I have too much on my plate to worry about the fact that my junk intimidates some needle D undergrad.
First ever conference tournament for Longwood, right?
My wife went to Longwood. I really think I may kill myself if they dance and the Terps don't. Then again, it gives me a legit dog and a reason to get behind the Lancers.
Big South tourney, Day 1. Four games. Two went to OT. In another, the defending champ got beat by the aforementioned Longwood. In the nightcap, tourney host Coastal Carolina was whipped by Liberty.
Quarterfinals are on Thursday. Could be interesting.
Schools that have never made the NCAA Tournament — the 2014 edition http://wp.me/plDgR-1WQ
Patriot, Northeast, A-Sun, WCC, and OVC all start today. Of those, only the A-Sun is on ESPN3.
Of local interest: MSM @ Bryant, and Navy @ Bucknell.
It just dawned on me that I am going to be completely free (with minimal mop up work) for the entire ACC tourney as well as 3 of the first 4 days of the NCAA tourney!
That sucked last night. Coastal losing to Liberty really makes it worse. I hope Cliff Ellis decides to retire this march or next. He is just getting worse as a coach since he has been here.
i was rooting for you guys. can't believe they lost that game (especially since they opened it up 10-0 or whatever), considering it was at home.
nonetheless, good tournament thus far.
OK with this epiphany, I'm considering seeing if my Dad wants to roadtrip with me to Greensboro. What's the most cost-effective way of getting tickets? Is it waiting for teams to lose and scoop up people's books?
I'd want to stay the entire weekend (clearly seeing VT isn't my only motivation.) Any advice on hotels/tickets, favorite Bojangles locations?
you need to hope for UNC/NCST 4/5 matchup on Friday, that will open up a lot of tickets. You can take your chance after that. It could be cheaper to buy a leftover book from the loser of that session, because NCSt/UNC vs Duke in the championship could be expensive, but if it ends up being UVA/Miami, then lol you paid WAAAAAY to much. So basically, with money in mind, you should just root for UVA to win out.
Thursday tickets are no problem.
And screw bojangles, they have a Biscuitville only a mile from the venue.
I tried getting up a ACC Tournament Mafia between sessions the past few years, but no one wanted to join, maybe you can organize it.

Miami's nemesis Florida Golf Coast opened their tourney with a win this afternoon and happily covered and it was on ESPN gameplan... Nice way to spend an afternoon. I plan to hit up games next week at three tourneys.... The Pac 12 Wednesday, MWC Thursday and WAC championship Saturday. I love these next few weeks

FGCU didn't start holding classes until 1997. Now two games away from an NCAA bid...
I got tickets for the opening rounds in Philadelphia, just praying I don't see Duke and Georgetown there. Ugh.
Has lost it's appeal due to the number of times Matyland has failed to go to the tourney the last decade

Andy Enfield is a Hopkins grad, holds the D3 record for FT%. I went to 5 star basketball camp twice in my youth (not the elite 5 star camps but the local ones anyone (including Carmelo) could go to) and he spoke both years.
Now that Maryland is basically out of it, it will be nice to enjoy the conference tourneys and March Madness without any real stress (until they win a game in the ACCT and I start to believe they can win the whole thing)
I still love this time of year even with the Terps looking like a lonnnnnng shot to make the tournament. I want to get a look at MTSU, La Tech, and Montana. Also intrigued by the OVC with Murray state, Belmont, and Tennessee State and the Summit tourney.
MVC tourney should be a lot of fun too - lots of teams that can win some games there
No doubt, love some Arch Madness!
On today are the A-Sun, Big South, MVC, OVC, and WCC. Your only mid-day office ESPN3 streaming will be ETSU-Stetson in the A-Sun at 2:30.
Starting tomorrow, I hope my afternoon schedules stay meeting-free. We'll have ESPN3 for daytime double-headers in the MVC and Southern tomorrow.
If someone makes a post like this outlining which conferences are in action daily I will upvote it every single time.
with each passing year that goes by of MD missing the tournament ... i don't know if it gets more fun or more painful to watch conference tournaments/NCAA tourney.
It's less painful for me when I come into the year expecting to be on the bubble or not make it. When we returned the core of that 2004 ACC championship team and the expectations were enormous that's when it hurt the most. I guess I was a little numb to this years results because I knew we would struggle with youth and not having good seniors and juniors throughout the year. It's honestly going to be disappointing to not make it, but nothing like when that team I mentioned above missed.
It's a mixed bag. The first few days of the NCAA are literally my favorite days of the year. When Maryland is in it, they just happen to also be a few of the most stressful days of the year.
