Phil Coke's Brain @PhilCokesBrain 26m
Is it just an ego thing that teams won't lay down the bunts with consistency to break the shifts? They seem to become more and more prevalent every year.
"It's just so hard," Greivis said. "It's my heart, my love. Maryland made me who I am."
I'm sure the number crunchers have processed the data and decided that swinging away is still a better percentage play.
A few O's, Chris Davis being the most notable, were bunting against the shifts in ST. I wonder if that will carry over.
Don't you need to replace "teams" with "players" for that statement?
No, I don't. The coaches would tell a majority of the players if they wanted them to bunt against the shift.
I meant from the ego perspective. Can't think of many situations where it doesn't make sense to bunt those.
My guess would be teams are too proud to "resort" to that type of baseball.
I think that's part of it, but you could also say that usually the shift are on for pure power hitters, so if you're having them bunt, you're taking the power away from them.
The way ESPN's scoreboard is all fucked up with interleague play pisses me off way more than should be humanly possible.
Maybe it wasn't the smartest idea to spend a ton of money on guys the Red Sox couldn't wait to dump Dodgers
Wasted a pretty good effort from Anibal today too
