I don't get it. This kind of thing happens to the Yankees/Red Sox all the time, and other popular teams to a lesser extent.
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- If you happen to be attending Thursday night's Rangers-Twins game in Target Field and are feeling at all hospitable, bring a pillow. Texas may need some. ...
Maybe it changed in the last agreement, but wasn't that something Adrian Gonzalez complained about last year with Boston? The Yankees routinely get night games in whatever city they're playing in and don't arrive in their next city until some absurd hour of the morning. I do hope they enact some meaningful changes, but owners often don't want to lose evening box revenue against popular teams by switching it to a noon start.
When is the last time the Red Sox/Yankees played a 10pm EST game on the West Coast and then flew EAST 2+ timezones to play the next night?
I get what you are saying (and yes big baby A-Gon blamed the Red Sox struggles on it), but playing 8pm EST at home and then flying west or staying on the east coast is not quite the same as a road series out west and then another road series back east.

I get what you're saying, but is it really that much different if you play a series in Texas with a game starting at 7:00 local time and fly to Boston and land at 4:00 AM or something? I get that this specific circumstance is unfortunate, but my point is that these general things happen to the more popular teams, even if this case is more egregious than most.
I wish they'd mandate afternoon games in more circumstances at the ends of series, and not just a relatively arbitrary two time zone rule, especially when you factor in the possibility of extra innings, rain delays, etc.
I just don't recall that happening often. Most of the Yankees/Red Sox Sunday night games are at home or in the other city. During the week, those teams almost always play in the afternoon on getaway days.
This all gets bargained for in the CBA. But I'm sure that the negotiation goes like this:
MLBPA: We want a mandate that all getaway days are played during the day unless the away team has an off day.
MLB: Not a problem. We will pass the associated costs of revenue loss from this on to the players.
MLBPA: Night games it is.
In the past, they've both had a number of 7:05 starts on travel days during the week. Obviously Sundays aren't as big a problem. Some teams are also much worse than others about insisting on night games.
I also don't mean for my comments to sound like I'm complaining about unfair treatment for the Yankees/Red Sox, and looking at the schedule this year, it does appear that some changes have been made. Late nights for popular teams is part of the price they pay for being as popular as they are, and it obviously benefits them in many other ways.
We're minutes away from Hawk Harrelson joining Brian Kenny & Harold Reynolds on MLB Now on @MLBNetwork. Find a TV & buckle up.
Phil Coke just walked in the go ahead run in the 10th on 4 pitches after intentionally walking the batter in front
When will these be replayed? O/U on "Spreadsheets"+"Calculators"+"On the field" is set at 11.5.
Intentionally walking JEFF FRANCOEUR
It's almost too awkward to watch. Hawk is clueless and Brian Kenny will keep hammering him.
Has Kenny mentioned La Russa, Bonilla, or Dombrowski yet?
See you guys in 2063! RT @freemaneric Hawk Harrelson says sabermetrics can work in 40-50 years, but not now because they aren't ready yet.
Hawk Harrelson officially winning the week with his new overarching statistic: tWtW ... The Will to Win!
I think tecmo mentioned something similar but I saw a few minutes of the show the other day and was kinda embarrassed for Harold Reynolds the way Brian Kenny was ripping him apart.
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
Harold, god love him, has become a complete caricature.
Last night, during highlights, in a 2-0 game with a runner on first, they show a guy hit into a DP, and Harold says, "You know, I think that's why you have to bunt there" and the host calls him on it, "It's TWO to nothing, Harold" and Harold says, "well he wouldn't have hit a DP if he had bunted".
Harold could go on a 5 state killing spree and I'll still love him.
Sabermetrics have ruined him. His response to EVERY OUT on live look-ins is that the guy should have bunted.
Didn't see this, but I assume Francoeur swung at least once during the AB...

It's absolutely brutal. I like his TV personality, but he's so ridiculous. I can't tell if he even knows BK is completely destroying him or if he actually believes the crap he says.
