Yes I amke (see) typos.
Lefty and JT 1 had a long time fued. I do not rememebr all the details, but one of last games between Terps and Hoyas was at DC Armory. I was there and I think Craig Shelton was on Georgetown, and the Hoyas won,I forget who was on MD, but I can not rememeber what I did 5 minutes ago.
However I lookd up Terps and Hoyas history since 1972 when JT1 became HC for Hoyas.
The DC Armory game was in 1979 and won by Hoyas 83-71 and may have been last game between Terps and Hoays until 90s.
73-74 at MD won by Terps 115 -83
74-75 at Cap Center won by Terps 104 -71
75-76 at Cap Center won by Terps 72-63
76-77 , no game?
77-78 at Cap Center won by Terps 91-87
78-79 at DC Armory won by Hoyas 83-71.This Hoyas team inclued Craig Shelton, John Duren, Sleepy Floyd and Ed Sprigs who all made NBA. Shelton would have been a star but blew out his knee at Dunbar DC in summer, but still made NBA and had nice career, I saw him before knee injury and he was one of best HS players I saw. Also, Eric Smith from Churchill on Hoyas and he was from Churchill and very good.
Here is Terps 78-79 roster:
Buck Williams,Albert King, Taylor Baldwin, Lawrence Gibson, Ernest Graham, David Henderson, Reggie Jackson,Greg Manning
Greg ‘Dutch' Morley
Morgan Wooten from DeMatha had beef with John Thompson. This may have stemmed from when JT1 was HS Coach at St. Anthony's in DC before becoming Hoyas Head Coach in 70s, His first big time classes included DC locals Merlin Wilson, Jonathan Smith and Brooks, This class put Hoyas on the map.
John Thompson has heavy ties with Nike and I am not sure if David Falk is his Agent.
Falk represents Jordan and Falk helped create Jordan gear, Falk is a DC native.
why do you always crticize me? I have good information , if you say something back it up.
Have you ever met me? I do not think you would be a smart @ss to my face.
I think you have the roles backward. Thompson complained that Wootten's recruiting was cherry picking the best black players from DC, would get preferential treatment from refs because he had so many white players (I think one time JT pulled his team before the second half of a game because he claimed the reffing was so biased) and wanted to play all games between the schools at Howard.

I forgot what caused the issues, but I think you are correct about HS recruiting.
I like both Coaches and I have met Coach Wootten and Coach Thompson many times.
Lefty had issues with John Thompson and vice versa, I forget what that was all about, It was ashame because teams should play each year.
The Georgetown fans and Maryland fans clash, but some local DC natives like myself root for all DC and Baltimore teams and the High School athletes who come from this area.
If you root for Georgetown you are wrong.
Explain why? I grew up here, Maryland is my # 1 team, and Georgetown close 2.
If you write a comment like this explain why, same thing for winterps.
Because of JT's antagonistic attitude towards our program? Because if a big name local kid goes to Georgetown it means he didn't go to MD? Because it's a snobby ass private school? Because they run a boring offense?
agree with all, but our offense sucks now too
I used to think Smokefree had a new alias and hung around here occasionally. This thread makes me realize that can't be true. Too bad, he'd have wrapped this one up by now.
Does anyone actually know a real Georgetown fan? Do they exist? And I'm not talking about Landover Lenny wearing his G'Town Hat, or that guy who casually follows them because they are a local team. I mean a real "fan". A season ticket holder? A guy who throws his remote thru his TV because they lost? I know one. One. And he is like 80. I have live in the DC area my entire life. It's seriously an honest question.
I know a few, but none of them are actually from the area.
There are many who are alumni.
I follow Hoyas pretty close and was pretty happy with tonight over UConn.
As mentioned I am from DC area and Terps are my #1 team, Hoyas second.
I have followed both schools since I was a kid.
I know many people who do not like Georgetown, I have heard it all, John Thompson was a bully, did not recuit white players, he is racist, the progam is snobby.
I respect John Thompson Senior and I have met him, he was friends with my friends father, and John Thompson Senior was very nice to me.
He is not racist and I never had issue he recruited mostly Afircan American players, He ran a tight ship and he had them go to class and tried very hard to help his players.
His Patrick Ewing teams were in the top 5 NCCA teams I have ever seen. They were tough, smart and hustled. JT1 always had a nice point and center However,
I am not a fan of the Princeton offense Junior runs, and some of the Hoyas teams in last few years fizzled at end. I thought Austin Freeman and Chris Wright would have developed more, but Freeman was diagnosed with Diabetes. This years team has overacheived.
You missed a generation. The famous JT is the Jr. The current coach is the III.
classlessthug: I have too much on my plate to worry about the fact that my junk intimidates some needle D undergrad.
JLK padding his resume as easily the worst poster on the board.
If you don't understand what should be obvious, no matter of explaining will work.
Doesn't Georgetown owe UMD a return game? I thought there was a ton of bad blood due to something like that too. Now UMD and Gtwon don't play because neither team will give on the return game issue.

"roomers are for bitches and bitches get fucked up."
I'm a fan of both Maryland and Georgetown like JLK33, but Georgetown definitely owes Maryland a home game. I'm guessing what happened was John Thompson Jr took the game because he figured his team would easily beat Maryland(who was coming of a terrible 1992-1993 season and lost their 2 best players from the team). Once Georgetown got beat thanks to Joe Smith's dominance, JTII got scared and backed out of the rematch. He knew if Georgetown came to play at Cole Field House during the 1993-1994 season, Georgetown would've gotten crushed!!
I'm guessing another thing that bothered JTII is that there were more Maryland fans at the US Air Arena(Georgetown's home court) than Georgetown fans!! I don't think he was aware that Maryland still had strong fan support despite the team being average/below average for the previous 4 or 5 years. The Georgetown fans were making an EXCUSE about Maryland not being fair with the ticket distribution. But the bottom line is, Maryland has a LOT more students and alumni than Georgetown and unless they played the game in McDonough gym(Georgetown's on-campus facility), there will always be a lot more Maryland fans than Georgetown fans.
Several Big East teams like West Virginia(when they played in the Big East), Syracuse, Louisville, and maybe even Villanova bring LOADS of fans to the Verizon Center when they play Georgetown. The school isn't big enough to have a true home court advantage in a place like the Verizon Center.
It really is pretty impressive for a program that was as down as ours and GTown being preseason #15 to have more fans on their "home court". What a great game. In his first college game, Joe Smith absolutely shitting on reigning Big East freshman of the year Othella Harrington his first college game and of course Duane's tear drop scoop to win it. Butthurt John Thomson not honoring a return game after realizing that we were already better and would continue to improve and take back the DC area.
I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?
I have a confession to make. I'm not proud of myself, but I rooted for North Carolina in the '82 National Championship game.
So last night the official Syracuse University twitter feed posted something like 'I think we just saw Boeheim's last game in the Dome' which was then taken down. There's a lot of smoke about an NCAA investigation about academics (outside of Melo last year and Southerland this year).
I've been saying all year I wouldn't be surprised if he never coached in the ACC. Luckily I'm going to the gtown game this weekend, so it may be the last Boeheim coached Syracuse game. Not seeing him on the sideline next year or whenever will be much stranger than not seeing Gary on the sideline.
Edited to add link...
From the blog The Dagger: College Basketball Blog: When a student blogger at a community college in Syracuse reported Wednesday that Jim Boeheim had been asked to retire at the end of the season, most Orange fans surely were smart enough to judge the credibility of the story … Continue reading →

interesting. would be a fitting way for boeheim to exit, while giving SU's move to the ACC one more eff-you. Hopkins' pants probably got a lot tighter at the idea, he's been hanging in there for the top spot for a while now.
Yeah, Hop has interviewed for a number of jobs over the last couple years, but none of them were high majors, USC is interested in him this go around, so that may change the calculus of this whole thing.
Fab Melo would be shocked by this post if he could read it.
Big east basketball is so much better than acc basketball because the players aren't flopping all over and the refs don't call every little contact
