first bet i ever placed on a sporting event not just with a friend. 2006 BC v. Pacific in first round. BC was -10. Game went to double OT and BC won by 12. I thought i was going to be really good at the whole gambling thing.
Loved Al McGuire's call on this one.

Georgia Tech's James Forrest hits the game-winning shot against USC in the 1992 NCAA Men's Basketball tournament.
I remember a WVU-Louisville game IIRC was Elite 8. WVU hit like every 3 pointer and was up by around 20 points, then Louisville made a comeback to win the game and make the final 4 for the 1st time with Pitino. I think this was back when Edgar Sosa and Francisco Garcia were playing for Louisville.
I know we all hate UConn now, but I loved their team in 99 with Khalid and Rip. I was the only one in my large work pool to pick them over Duke that year. Its the only NCAA pool I have ever won, and it was over Duke. Great feeling
Terpes and I were at the 2011 regional in NOLA. Saw three games (Butler v. Wisky, BYU v. Florida and Butler v. Florida). Two games went to OT and the other game was a 7 pt win for Butler, although Wisconsin rallied back at the end to get pretty close. Great atmosphere live. Also, Len Elmore was calling the games. Watching Butler cut the nets down was really cool.
The FSU/VCU game in the Sweet Sixteen that year was a wild game, also.
Took the attached picture of Jimmer on the NCAA logo. He was pretty awful that game, if I remember correctly.
Of the more recent ones, that Northern Iowa squad with the Iranian(?) chucker...that game was entertaining as hell
here we go...this is just the end but that whole game was unreal intensity. everyone outside the state of Kansas(and people unreasonably obsessed with their brackets) was pulling for NI and that goofy Ali pulled it off

Go away, KA!
Danny Manning in 1988. It was just awesome watching one guy just will his Cinderalla team to the top game after game. For you younger guys, it was even better than Carmello in whatever year it was he did that too.
I also really enjoyed NCST's run in 1983. It was long before I hated them. I pretty much rooted for all ACC teams until I went to MD.
Cinderella stories are always the best memories.
James Forrest daggered us with less than a second that year in Cole too. Perhaps the year before.
Yes, both that WVU game vs Wake (2OT masterpiece) and vs Louisville were both in 2005 and absolutely incredible. If I remember correctly, WVU hit 15 of their first 15 (!!!!!!) 3 point attempts and yet Louisville was still able to hold on. Looking back, 2005 was an unreal year for the tournament.
Lehigh was playing 5-on-8 in the last couple of minutes. LOL @ the flop on the three at 11:55.
I liked the Vermont over Syracuse win
I also thoroughly enjoyed VCU beating Duke in '07 as well as the Lehigh win

Detroit Hustles Harder
I've never seen video of the play, but I am bound by heritage to point out that US Reed didn't walk, he was tripped, against Indiana State.
Lehigh over Duke was terrific, but the moment (actually a couple of minutes) that sticks in my mind more than anything else was the second round in 1981 (Saturday games) where there were three or four buzzer-beater endings in a row. Arkansas buzzer-beater, then CBS switched to K-State with 10-15 seconds left, and after the second buzzer-beater, CBS switched to St. Joseph's game with 10-15 seconds left and they won on a buzzer-beater. All in about 2-3 minutes of real time. It was fantastic.
“Defending champion Louisville was bounced in the second round by Arkansas, when U.S. Reed hit a 50-footer at the buzzer to give the Razorbacks a 74-73 win. Kansas State’s Rolando Blackman and Saint Joseph’s forward John Smith both hit game-winners immediately after Reed’s shot. “ http://www.cbssports.com/collegebasketball/ncaa-tournament/history/yearbyyear/1981
Here were the close second round scores in the second round of 1981:
St. Joseph's 49
Kansas State 50
Oregon State 48
Add to that, Oregon State was ranked #2 and DePaul #1 in the final pre-tournament polls.
I've never seen video of CBS's feed of all three shots back-to-back-to-back. This link has them cut up:
And a story on the day:
Others are close, but this is my favorite.
I ripped this video, myself from VHS. Itm not really...
Thanks for the links. Remember watching those endings like it was yesterday. Amazing.
FROM THE PARKING LOT
Not that it was a great moment by any stretch, but Pitt vs. Butler in the Verizon Center in 2011 has a special spot in my heart.
Butler takes a one-point lead with two seconds left -->
Shelvin Mack commits a "shooting" foul 50 feet from the basket-->
Pitt ties, then misses the second free throw -->
Pitt commits a "shooting" foul 84 feet from the basket on the rebound -->
Butler wins -->
Butler to their second title game.
Coach Nick breaks down the final 6 minutes of this riveting game, as Matt Howard and Shelvin Mack were the heroes for the Butler Bulldogs.
My pick as well. I was at this game in Boise and it was nuts. Hampton's band was awesome too.
man, I've been to near 30 Tournament games, and never seen a buzzer beater, except this one, if free throws count. Lame. Had a few teases (Singletary vs Tennessee, Butler vs Duke, Belmont vs Duke) but nothing legit. Watching Kansas' comeback vs tosu last year was a blast because I hate ohio state. Best watching on TV was Mason.
Al McGuire, in his last game coaching, upsetting Saint Deanie
