What's everyone's favorite round of the NCAA Tournament? For the purposes of this, discussion, first round = old first round, not the play-in crap. Obviously no one would choose that anyway.
First round - Sheer quantity of games is awesome and guarantees some exciting finishes and upsets. Most of the serious contenders aren't seriously tested and it's rare for two legitimately good teams to meet in the first round.
Second round - Still some top quality games, start to see some contenders lose/get tested. Lots of upsets and close games, but lacks the volume of the first round.
Sweet 16 - Still get 4 games a night, often pitting very good teams against each other. Great "on paper" matchups. Lack of games can lead to some dud nights if the games aren't very close.
Elite 8 - Similar to S16, but both the pros and cons are amplified. Playing for a place in the final 4, pretty much anyone's barometer for a truly successful season.
Final 4 - Often get best paper matchups of the season, with more pomp and circumstance than previous rounds. Unfortunately, the games can lack in excitement and there are no alternatives if a game is boring.
Championship - Natty, One Shining Moment, last game of the season. Jim Nantz's schmaltzy tagline when one team wins.
Second. It's still about 12 hours and games are typically awesome.
The 2nd round is the best now. Since CBS joined with Turner the start times are staggered nicely for maximum viewing and now the action continues until midnight Sunday as opposed to stopping at 7 for 60 minutes.
Go away, KA!
I was going to say this too. When it was all on CBS and it was 1-2-3-2 with start times not well staggered, it wasn't as good. The new setup is awesome. Sunday in particular was obnoxious under the old format when it was 1-4-3 so old people could watch their 60 Minutes.
I am torn between the sensory overload/overdose of the first round and the Elite 8 having the Final 4 on the line.
Sweet 16. 4 games each day and it's usually where you start to see good power conference teams play each other.
Yeah the second round is MUCH better now than before, but I'll still go with the first. The Elite Eight is definitely worst, I think. The Natty can be awful, but at least you get the hype and fanfare.
I still prefer the pure insanity of the first two days over anything.
First round is so much better and if you don't agree you seriously deserve death
yes, that Thursday and Friday may be the two greatest days of each year.
Used to be first round for me, but i don't get the see hardly any of those games anymore, so I'm gonna go with 2nd round. Still plenty of games, some better matchups, and i get to watch them all.
Elite 8 is by far the worst.

But the first round only has 4 games! (joking)
2nd round = powder
1st round = crack
If the second round is sooooo good, why am I bored out of my mind right now?
It's halftime and there's nothing to do. No way is the 2nd round better.
Yeah, it should heat up some later on but FGCU spanking Georgetown makes the 1st round the winner by default.
Georgetown/ NC State never gets to lose in round 2.
Seriously. Today has sucked. One game at a time is history's greatest monster.
Holy shit, I upvoted Soda.
Another vote for first round.
classlessthug: I have too much on my plate to worry about the fact that my junk intimidates some needle D undergrad.
Another vote for the 1st Round, especially Thursday. Thursday is one of the truly great days in sports.
The first round if I don't have to be at work. Otherwise, the second round.
NC State beat Georgetown in the second round last year.
It's terrible what they did to the first Sunday. There should be multiple games on throughout the afternoon, and it's dumb that the games are on til midnight tonight - who wants to stay up for that?
CBS got bailed out by two pretty great games this afternoon, but it's a bad setup.
Friday of the first round after your team wins Thursday is the absolute best game watching experience. Same goes for Thursday if your team wins early. At any rate for me it's the first round even when MD isn't in it. Skipping work and day drinking, rooting for iconic foes to lose to a lower seed, the best.
First round and it isn't even close.
And if you like the set up for Saturday and Sunday you are a terrorist. It sucks having one game one at a time the first five hours especially when there is a blowout and then have three going at once in the evening. Thank God Tiger was on to entertain me yesterday afternoon until the schedule ramped up.
well, the first two games today were really close. what's your point
