We're gonna draw 19,000 at Byrd next year for our home game against UConn. That has absolutely nothing to do with this argument, but the idea that Clemson could get $2 million in revenue for a home game against Furman is putting me on full mega-tilt. We're going to need to beat you in hoops by 40 every year for the next decade to make me feel better.
West endzone made us a player for the James Davis types from 05 on.
Improving facilities is part of the recruiting arms wars. Kids like new shiny things and hearing about future new shiny things.
I'm guessing a Clemson sellout is 2M. Clemson almost always sells out.
The facilities arms race only goes so far. You guys already started building a new indoor facility have you not? What are you missing that your competiton has after that?
The folly in this whole thing is thinking money is even near the top of the list of reasons why you're behind your regional competition.
Cite me a story that says a recruit came because of that project. I get choosing a school for the practice facility and locker room areas, but an addition to a stadium? That's absurd.
yeah, but once you have the incredible weight room and the indoor practice facility, and maybe athletic dorms, what else is there to spend money on? all of the SEC schools already have that shit, as does Clemson I guess. VT is building something now (chopping down 400 year old oak trees, thanks).
80000 times 25 a head, throw in some for concessions and misc.
I'm not arguing with his contention. I'm sure Clemson does get close to $2 million per home game. I'm just saying it makes me weep when I think of that and then look at a picture of the crowd at a Maryland-BC game.
Hgoodman, 80% of the west endzone is player centric. Lounges, locker rooms, etc. I'm citing the dozens of interviews where kids said "yo dat Wez is dope"
right, but that is already there. what are you spending $20MM/year on facilities going forward?
We still have 2 stadium phases to go. Then we'll jump to the next project.
You're just trolling us now, is that it? It took us 5 years to get field turf put in*
*(may not be true)
The best part, as Tabe already pointed out, is Clemson will still get trumped by the SEC schools if they go to the B12. There's just no catching those schools.
The best recruiting, and money making, tool is winning. The easiest place to win is the ACC. As I've said before, I could see FSU falling further into NCST-caliber irrelevance if they joined the B12. Clemson is almost guaranteed NCST-caliber irrelevance.
disagree here.. Only been there once, but it was a beautiful Saturday afternoon in late November, clinched a spot in the ACC title game with a win (or a BC loss or something like that) and it was CJ Spillers Senior Day. This should all offset that they were only playing UVA. And there were plenty of seats to be had. I mean the upper corner sections were literally half full, with no one sitting in the top half. Like that on all 4 corners of the stadium. I really don't think they sell out more for any non prime game (like not Auburn, USC, FSU, or maybe GT). Gas prices, economy, I have no idea why, they still are great fans, probably best in the ACC, but I was pretty sad that game wasn't sold out.
I feel like there's been at least a dozen Clemson players who have been photographed with stacks of cash over the past several years. I'm exaggerating, but you get the gist...
Subtract the Furman payoff between $400k and $500k.
"roomers are for bitches and bitches get fucked up."
This is what I don't get. If they want money, make this new final four playoff. Best place to do that is the ACC. I fail to see how getting curb stomped twice a year minimum by Texas and Oklahoma would help.
That's what big east teams used to say
Yeah because the Big East and ACC are totally the same
They were. Only reason they're not now is bc, uhh, expansion happened.
If Clemson/FSU leave...we're seriously the nuBigEast.
No chance Swoffle House pulls off any move other than going back to the Big East well for the 4th time to pluck gems like Uconn and Rutgers.
There's no reason to expand again if FSU/Clemson leave. Rutgers/UConn add nothing. 12 teams increases the revenue payouts. ESPN won't reduce them because that would just further weaken the conference and lead to the top commodities (UNC, Duke, VT, Miami, MD, UVA) fleeing for other conferences.
who is yorktiger on tigernet? He is acting like an insider over the past week or so....says Clemson is 100% gone..
Jackie Robinson isn't dirty. This isn't Pack Pride.
I think he's just some dude. Nobody knows shit.
Edit... Can u curse all you want here? Nice.
