it's bad. just hoping it's temporary
When people talk about Yow not hiring Fridge, it's a very complex situation. Just like with Gary, she was never fully behind Fridge.
The way her people spin it, the two of them were egomaniacs who felt like the entire athletic department should bow at her feet. Both wanted more than the other and would whine whenever one got something the other didn't.
I'm sure there's some truth to that, but it wasn't just Yow not bending over backwards for these guys - the faces of the moneymaking programs, mind you. I've heard stories of her getting in their way. Being stubborn. Again, these were the two guys making money for the entire AD. You've got to give them a little. And part of it was they weren't her guys. In Gary's case, he predated her. In Ralph's, influential boosters prodded her to make the hire. Either way, she hadn't picked them and they weren't her guys. She wasn't committed to them the way she was other coaches in the athletic department.
BTW, I know it was LOL-bad when our women's coaches were paid more than the men's, but that wasn't totally on Debbie. I don't want to excuse her from being an awful cunt, but there was a pay-freeze in the state of MD IIRC, so guys like Ehsan and Chuck were ineligible for raises. When they were hired, they had little experience and the contracts they received to be third assistants were appropriate. It stunk that we couldn't increase their pay as their responsibilities increased. Meanwhile, Brenda had to replace a guy like Jeff Walz on the bench, and her assistants were all more seasoned. It was really the perfect storm of timing mixed with Yow's hatred for GW.
I've made this point countless times, the staff of Chuck, Booth and Ehsan had a combined one year of previous D-I coaching experience in the last 10 years. Plus our DBOP was more of an administrator. It was possibly the most inexperienced staff of any BCS school. The story here wasn't their compensation, it was that Gary would assemble such an inexperienced staff.
My last period class begs to differ
