Who will go to the Sweet 16 more often?
LOL - Flops is is now a State Fan!
This is a bigger fail than Dixon unintentionally declaring that Gary's a c*** and Yow is not.
And what has Mark Gottfried done at N.C. State to get #1.95 mil per annum? Anyone? Bueller?
the only real postseason that we have participated in post Debbie Yow was the Military Bowl. But at least we can laugh at her emails. She's bat shit crazy but I'm not sure we're in such a great position ourselves to be poking fun of another school's AD.
Agreed... But I'd say an NIT final four appearance is at least as notable as a Military Bowl victory (not that either is very notable).
eamhokie94: Is your name Nazi in pig Latin?
I thought it was pretty clear even if you have no idea what my affiliation is when I said "we" are already in a 2-0 "hole", as in "we" are losing to "them". I guess not
If we hang a banner for NIT Final Four this year, I will climb up and tear it down
50% of the programs in college football go to a bowl game (and we can probably all agree that the Military Bowl is near the bottom of prestige). Only the top 20% of the college basktball programs go to the NCAAT -- 21 - 30 percentile go to the NIT. Using pure statistics, one could certainly argue that a NIT F4 appearance is a much better result then a military bowl appearance.
what percentage of BCS teams go to a bowl game? what percentage of BCS teams play in either the NIT or NCAA tournament?
"Maryland football: Where everybody gets hurt and the starting left tackle has an existential crisis."
by my count:
47 BCS schools this year made either the NCAAT or NIT out of 75 or 62.67%.
45 BCS schools played in a bowl game this year out of 68 or 66.18%
Statistically (going by 1 year sample size) it's harder for a BCS school to make the NIT then play in a bowl game.
Also, we were discussing not just making the NIT but a final four appearance. So 35 BCS Schools either made the NCAAT or NIT F4 this year for 47 percentile.
Flops, you're a real fan.
12 out of 32 NFL teams make the playoffs = 37.5% of teams
16 out of 30 NBA teams = 53.3%
16 out of 30 NHL teams
10 out of 30 MLB teams (expanded last season) = 33.3%
And as G$ said, 50% of CFB teams bowl and 21% (319 D1 teams I believe?) get to the NCAAs. It's the most exclusive playoff, and even making the NIT puts you in the top 30%.
This isn't to say, wow, we made the NIT - awesome! No, the point is that just because the Military Bowl is a bowl doesn't mean it's worth a damn. So explain why a crappy NIT FF isn't just as good as a crappy Military Bowl appearance?
If I read one more positive NIT post I am gonna cut someone.
slander is spoken, libel is published
weren't you in law school?
Yes, but unfortunately Neal went to the same law school that gave Debbie her PhD.
"And I try to har-mo-nize with songs the lonesome sparrow sings...
There are no kings inside the Gates of Eden."
Because you're arbitrarily using 125 as the denominator for football and 319 for basketball. Even if those are the actual number of teams theoretically eligible for bowls / NCAA Tournament, it's ridiculous to say that basketball is a more exclusive tournament because you were better than Grambling.
Which is why goterpss posted the numbers for BCS teams. 45 made a bowl, and four others would have made a bowl if not for being ineligible. 41 made the NCAA/NIT, plus UConn if eligible.
That being said the comparison between Military Bowl-NIT only works if bowls were selected on merit. In reality the Military Bowl season was much more impressive and we should have gone to the Champs or at least Music City which are much more respectable bowls. And the comparison between Turgeon and Gottfried was...wow.
I wasn't arguing with goterpss's use of numbers.
But to get back to the original debate, Kevin's only successful seasons as an AD were the 2010 football season (which was coached by a guy whom he fired) and Turge's NIT F4.
DY's NCAAT appearances were made by a coach she hired. We can agree to discount their bowl appearances because they were by a coach she fired (she did talk her way into the Champs Sports Bowl in 2010 over us). I'm not also going to mention (but will) that she lined up James Franklin as HCIW. Kevin lined up Randy Edsall.
The Franklin as HCIW is not something that should be used to defend yow
neither military bowl nor NIT final four are much to brag about. lets just leave it at that
What the hell does Kevin Anderson's competence have to do with fans' ability to laugh at NC State? Northwestern fans could laugh at NC State, and that'd be perfectly fine.
I guess but it's a fat guy making fun of a fat girl
