Except for the one carried by the Aging Average LB on that fateful January 2000 night. (Oh....I'm sorry....rather carried by his 'buddies.')
Hard to see playoffs considering the hole we dug ourselves early on. But now I'm not even sure we can get in position to snag Bazz/Noel/Zeller/Len if we keep playing like this. I just wish we could've had this season next year so we could at least be in the hunt for Wiggins. Because next year we won't come close to a high lotto pick.
Who needs to raise a green flag when they can just raise a right fist?
I would draft McLemore. He is the most sure thing. Imagine having McLemore, Beal and Wall together. You could keep Nene as the 4 and then try and trade for Cousins or just roll with what you have at the 5. Imagine if they made a play for Howard. I doubt he would come to Washington but with Beal and Wall, maybe you can convince him they are one star away from being a title contender?
We wont come close to a high lotto pick this year either.

I think the most amazing thing about this little run is Okafors play. He has been a straight beast down low. Ripping down boards and violently jamming dunks home on the offensive side.

They had a nice little article about him in the Post today. Mentioned how well he and Nene play off each other. For now I just keep the team the way it is. Resign Price and Webster for 2013-14 and hope for another piece in the draft (Otto Porter if we don't get lucky with McLemore). As long as the team stays healthy, they should make a run at the playoffs next season. I will be disappointed that we won't have a shot at Wiggins/ParkerRandle next draft though. They're difference makers.
Since John Wall has been back the Wiz are 6-3 which is the pace they need to maintain to even sniff the playoffs. To me it's not just the Wins that are encouraging it's that the 3 losses have all be close. And tonight they are 8.5 point favorites against Sacramento, when was the last time that has ever happened..
Sat, Jan 12 vs Atlanta W 93-83
Mon, Jan 14 vs Orlando W 120-91
Wed, Jan 16 @ Sacramento L 95-94
Fri, Jan 18 @ Denver W 112-108
Sat, Jan 19 @ Los Angeles L 94-87
Mon, Jan 21 @ Portland W 98-95
Wed, Jan 23 @ Utah L 92-88
Fri, Jan 25 vs Minnesota W 114-101
Sat, Jan 26 vs Chicago W 86-73
Nancy Pelosi - The Gift that Keeps on Giving..
I THOUGHT the Wizards winning 30 more games was far-fetched until I saw the schedule that TerpFaith posted and seeing the likes of Charlotte, Toronto, Detroit and Phoenix multiple times has to give any Wizards fan hope that they can post one of the best records in the NBA during the 2nd half of the season. I didn't realize that they had such a favorable schedule.
About Emeka Okafor, injuries and being on bad teams appeared to rob him of his ability, it's easy to forget that he was an outstanding center during his first few years in the NBA. I believe he was putting up 15PTS/11REBS/2.5BLKS type of numbers during those years. It looks like playing with John Wall and Nene has gotten him back to the level he played at early in his NBA career where he was a BEAST in the paint.
Okafor has battled injuries last few years. I always liked him, but he has taken his game to another level.
If we trade for Cousins I would keep Okafor and Nene to mentor him.
This a great team for Cousins, plus his buddy John Wall.
If all you're looking at is winning %, eyeing the 8th spot, then 28-14 the rest of the way gets you to the current winning % for the final playoff spot. That would be tough but not impossible if everyone stays healthy. Plus, the team in 8th is the Celts, who are in world of hurt with Rondo out. There is a pretty big drop off after that.
The big thing about the early injuries is that they created a trickle down effect where guys like Okafor were probably having to do more than they were capable of. Also, don't forget, he was brand new to the team, and was still trying to figure out a role. I know that Nene and Wall aren't superstars, but they are solid players, and when they can come in and be the starters, play against other teams' starters, etc., then guys like Okafor can come in against other teams' reserves, and focus on things like D and rebounding, and be much more effective. But since this team doesn't really have a superstar that can carry them for stretches, they really need everyone to be healthy for depth, which is their biggest asset.
What Wittman has done is settled on his 10 man rotation.
Wall, Beal, Webster, Nene, Okofor are the starters
Price, Crawford, Ariza, Booker, Seraphin are the reserves (and he played them a ton on Saturday)
It has worked.
Okafor is a starter though. You are right that he has benefited greatly from Nene's return.
The return of Wall and Nene along with the progression of Beal are the reasons for the improvement obviously, but it is the way they have affected the other players that is also important. Jordan Crawford has been a major beneficiary because he is no longer required to be a go to scorer and Wittman can bring him off the bench and really only needs to play him if he is hot. Webster, Price, and Ariza have really been helped by Nene because of his great passing from the post to get them open looks, though I'd be happy if Ariza never took another three ever.
Yes, but the Wizards have to stay healthy too.
And you can bet that they lose one of those games to those teams. NBA does not = NFL where the bottom feeders can't bust your ass one night
Pic Sigs are for losers.
Well tonight's loss certainly puts a damper on things...
I've got no problem waiting another year at this point if it means getting a better shot at McLemore.
Wall/Beal/McLemore is a solid backcourt foundation for the future.
Nene/Okafor work great together and we could probably trade or aquire a big time free agent after next year too.
How tall is mclemore? I domt see those three working together based on siz e issues
no. they played like the terps last night. turnovers and lack of ball movement.
if they didn't have okafer, they would have lost by a zillion. awful awful performance.
i always liked that isiah thomas kid. Dude just has it.
nene played like poop, i like his bully move to the rim with his dreads all up in the air lookin all mighty then throws up a brick or a turnover.
He's about 6'5". They can play together in the offensive zone because of their athleticism. They will have issues on defense at the 3 because that player will have a height/weight advantage. But I hope we can get McLemore in the draft.
Reality check tonight. Still a longshot to make the playoffs.
So this is over, right? Lose to the kings at home=season over. They should tank.
The rumors are true. Ben has super powers.
If we're healthy, we'll win 28-32 for the season and get the 6th-9th pick or the basketball gods loves us one last time and gives us McLemore.
