Rules per matchup:
1. Teams will have 24 hours to make all their arguments before voting can begin. Anyone who votes prematurely will not have their vote counted in the total. Voting will open at 9am on Tuesday morning.
2. Anyone may vote in the matchup. To vote, the person must either bold or *** the person's name who they think should win
3. Voting will last for 24 hours (so till 9am on Wednesday), after which, I'll tally the votes and count the winner. In the event of a tie, the tie breaker will be whomever has the most votes from the judges/ fellow owners. Voting for yourself is pointless and will not be counted. Full participant and judge list can be found in the general discussion thread.
If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?
Good luck. I win every game in this series by 20 /canyonero
I have a lot of work to do the next two days, so I'm not going to be able to do a 200+ post thread like canyons last game.
For "pure talent and atheticism" WMTerp12 team is 2nd only Kool's team. It will be interesting to see Canyonrooo's argument in this one.
Lol I was wondering who posted that furst sentence then saw it was in fact kool hah
I've never looked at any of these, but its wmterp easily. Jordan and Drexler together. The two best wings of their time.
Canyon's team is pretty much a poor man's version of my team.
His "stretch the floor" guy is Mitch Richmond, who only had good percentages in the year that the 3 point line was shorter. Mine is Ray Allen, the greatest shooter of all time, who shot 43% from the 3 with the real NBA line. Richmond only shot above 40% once his entire career with the real line.
Kobe is pretty much a poor man's version of MJ. Both great wing scorers, but MJ was massively more efficient and a better team player.
I don't think Dikembe and Mourning are much different (although in this format I prefer Mutombo, except for the fact that Canyon picked a season for Mourning where he only played 13 games and started just 3. Considering that he is already weak physically in the post, this is a complete disaster for him. 48 minutes of Brad Miller for 2 games in a serieson a team that is already going to be disadvantaged on the boards?
My strategy this series is to go big as hell and dominate the glass. Somehow Canyon built a team that is an overall poor shot blocking team in the post AND aren't great rebounders.
Here are the rebounding percentages for each team's 3 big men (Offense/Defense/Total)
Kemp 14/25/20 Brad Miller 6.5/20/13
Mutombo 11/25/19 Alonzo Mourning 10.5/22/17
Ewing 8/26/17 Karl Malone 9/24/17
Despite having 2 of his 3 guys who averaged 1 or less blocks a game in every year of their 3 year stretch, they STILL weren't able to rebound at a high percentage. I'm going to be playing volleyball with the backboard. In the games where Mourning is actually able to play, I'll be playing a lot of very big lineups. I'm going to throw length at Malone on the defensive end (Kemp won't be matched up with him very often, if ever....he will play less in this series then he usually would). I can see him saying that Pippen will help but 1. Drexler was very good on the offensive glass, and 2. this would massively hinder his transition game.
Canyon is going to argue that he is going to be able to run against a lineup like this. I don't see it when he is going to get beaten so badly on the boards. He pretty much has 2 gauranteed losses in games where he has to play Brad Miller for extensive minutes. He'll probably argue that Pippen can shut down MJ, which will be somewhat ridiculous. Pippen was a great defender, but he played in an era with only 2-3 really great wing creators/scorers. One was on his team, and the other (Drexler) did pretty well against him (average of 23 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists on 49% shooting) and was actually above his career averages has a scorer.
As for point gaurd, Jordan will take a bigger role this series, but it doesn't matter because he won't be out of his usual role. He'll be a creator in half court sets. If canyon plays help D, we kick out to Allen or Drexler. Canyon says he is switching on all like screens? Good luck to Penny covering MJ all game.
lol@ the thought of Cousy trying to guard MJ.
Canyon basically ruined any chance he had of beating WM last game.
Although I do find it hilarious that WM is trying to play up the 48 minutes of Brad Miller after just disregarding the fact that he would play 48 minutes vs Shaq last round.
I didn't disregard it, it was a really close vote. I just thought you were asking so much from one guy.

Pippen on Jordan, or Kobe?
Either way, someone's getting murdered by Game 5. What a matchup that would be.
"And I try to har-mo-nize with songs the lonesome sparrow sings...
There are no kings inside the Gates of Eden."
Im not trying to speak for canyon but I'd definitely think about kobe on jordan. Actually, none would "stop" him but canyon does have three starters w the size and athleticism to hang with jordan some
Who does WM have matched up on Canyon's guards?
Jordan, Drexler and Allen/Marion. I'm packing it in on defense since he has no real outside shooters. Jordan was a great on the ball defender and Drexler/Marion were both steal machines due to their ridiculous length and quickness for their size. He has no outside shooters at all. Older Ray Allen held Kobe to 40% shooting over 2 NBA finals. Unfortunately for Penny, all 3 years that Willbo picked were the years the 3 point line was almost 2 feet shorter, and he still shot 31% from 3 in 2 of the 3 years (35% for the 3rd). If he brings Richmond in to the game to cover up that deficiency, that would be a defensive nightmare for someone on the perimeter.
It's fine to say that (even though literally nobody stopped Jordan...the guy who gave him the biggest problems, at least early in his career, was a 6'3 quicker guy, not guys with length), but the matchups go both ways. How does Pippen do offensively against a guy equally as long and athletic as him? Would Kobe try and take over games with Jordan or Allen on him? He has length on the perimeter, but so do I. Jordan Allen Drexler and Marion are all 6'5 or above. Hardaways quickness would be a problem for canyon to defend too but unless he starts giving Bob Cousy 30 minutes a game, he won't be playing much.

I think I have a better team regardless of the Mourning missing 2 games thing, but with that you have to assume that Canyon takes 4 of the remaining 5.
I'm being devils advocate here cause he isnt here. But I thought it was you a few weeks back that agreed he obviously meant to choose a differwnt three year stretch for mourning
I might be confused by his years because of the way he is listing them, but I thought that was a different window. Regardless, even if you shift it down a year, Mourning only plays in 4 out of every 5 games (180 out of 217). That's also only assuming that Willbo decides to play him at his usual 33-34 minutes per game during those seasons (vs. 38 for Ewing, 36-37 for Dikembe). Less minutes for Zo = more minutes for Brad Miller = wmterp playing volleyball with the backboard.
First day at new job. Going to try to post later tonight.
It can't be overstated how much trouble wm will have getting into any sort of an offense. My whole team concept is pressure D with great wings and he has no pG. Does everyone just not care about that?
Also wtf is Titan talking about ruining my chances last round? People seemed to like how I framed my arguments.
Brad Miller also missed 39 games over his 3 year stretch.
Also mournings years was a complete brain fart. Meant to so a completely different stretch. No clue what I was doing there and that is on me.
What offense do I need a point gaurd to set up? This isn't college, we aren't running the flex. Jordan initiated the offense a large majority of the time in Chicago. If I wanted to push tempo it would be a tough sell, but I'm not.
Who played PG on this team?: http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CHI/1997.html
Or this one: http://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/CHI/1991.html
John Paxson and his 3 assists a game?
Refresh my memory on what teams those teams faces that had 3 6'8 super athletes pressuring ball handlers confidently. I'm sure you would just glide into your half court offense seamlessly because ummm well Jordan.
I'm out of commission for a few hours.
I drafted this team with the sole purpose of beating a team with Michael Jordan. Win lose or draw that was my goal.
