Doubt shocker_terp is affiliated with the university though.
Major congrats to Gregg Marshall!! He is from Greenwood, SC, the town where I live now. I don't know him but my brother-in-law, who was a good HS coach, is good friends with him and Gregg actually offered him a position when Gregg was at Winthrop. I'm pretty sure he'll go see him at the Final Four.
Very happy for him!! Well done, Gregg!!

"Academics is important, because without them....you aren't allowed to play!"
He should get COY
Nah. Dude's a great coach, but they didn't even win the MVC this year.
Marshall's apparently got some personality malfunction that makes him a nonstarter at a lot of schools who have been looking for coaches in recent years.
Can you elaborate on this? Didn't know about this. He seems to speak really intelligently about basketball and have a good media personality.
Unrelated but he also seemed to speak in cliches waaayyyyy less than other guys. He spit out some pretty straight talk in interviews.
Really? It seems like he's been offered, and rejected, quite a few jobs over the past few years.
I've read a bunch of the national recruiting site guys alluding to something with each other over the past couple of years whenever Marshall's name comes up for a job about how he's not a fit at a bigger program personality wise. Nobody really ever gets into specifics so I don't have any details.
He seemingly should've taken another job by now, I think there's a difference between staying at Butler and staying at an MVC program when you have offers. There's gotta be something keeping him from leaving.
yeah all the people from players to boosters at Winthrop loved him and hated to see him go. But, they are also a low major not even a mid and were in a small market.
I remember, a few years back, when Gregg Marshall had excepted the head coach position at College of Charleston, only to turn around and back out the next day and return to Winthrop. It was kind of strange at the time.
Wow. This is NOT roomy!
That had a lot more to do with the CofC than it did Marshall. An extremely wise decision on his part.
On the other hand, his personality (and maybe his price tag, too) had something to do with Darrin Horn getting the South Carolina job a few years back instead of Marshall, which in retrospect was a complete whiff for USC-Columbia.
