Conference Realignment Thread 2.0 (VCU to the A-10)

ESPN has to come back to the table, but they continue to hold all rights. So any ACC Network would be through ESPN. If the ACC and ESPN do not agree, the decision goes to mediation and ESPN continues to hold all ACC rights.

Raycom doesn't actually pay the ACC; I believe Raycom pays ESPN to sublicense ACC games. So any additional money on the contract would have to come from ESPN.

Yeah, I think Raycom had the contract until last year, but then it flipped and now ESPN has it and carves out some or Raycom.

Also, FSU has replaced WVU on the schedule with Savannah State. WVU will owe FSU at least $500,000, although CBS's Brett McMurphy indicated that FSU may also pursue additional liquidated damages.

The Big East is said to be in discussions to add Temple, a former member of the league in football, for all sports, but legal issues will have to be cleared.

Georgia Tech also has a scheduling issue for Sept. 8th that is delaying the schedule (trying to find a suitable opponent to play five days after opening the season on MNF in Blacksburg).

a small bump per team and another 5 years added to the length.

Have fun fending off the SEC and Big 10 when they come to poach offering twice as much cash. No one can poach a big 12 team for at least 6 years as they have all assigned their tv rights to the big 12 conference.

So this means the SEC can't get West Virginia to join? Total bummer

And we've never seen one of the new Big 12 schools break a contract after committing to that conference.

                • Plus it brings the football total to 13 teams, once all the other invitees show up. That is a messy schedule. You would think they would have considered the possibility of WVU leaving immediately before they finalized the deals with some of the other schools. Ask Temple before Memphis, or ask Temple before Navy. Does this mean they aren't finished? Another football only invite will bring them to 14 football schools and 18 basketball schools.

I think this will happen. There is no rush for the Big East to add another team because Navy won't join until 2015 (I believe). Plenty of time to decide what they're going to do.

Also, there is the slim possibility that Notre Dame will join the ACC and UConn would become the 16th ACC team. But Notre Dame is being a dick about joining our conference and I'm pretty much getting tired of it.

ND is being a richard about joining any conference, so we shouldn't take it personally.

                                • DSB has also learned from sources with knowledge of the situation, that while BYU continues to flesh out its schedule as an independent, it is also aggressively pursuing full membership in the Big 12 Conference for all of its athletic programs.

BYU has been involved in continued discussions with the Big 12 and its member schools for sometime now, even after the conference added TCU and West Virginia this past fall to replace Texas A&M and Missouri, both of which defected to the SEC.

In fact, discussions between BYU and the Big 12 go back to 2010, when the conference was reduced to ten teams after losing Nebraska and Colorado to the Big Ten and PAC-12 respectively.

Talks between the two parties have ramped up over the past couple of weeks however, with discussions revolving around the possibility of BYU and Louisville being added in time for the 2013-14 athletics season. Such a move would get the conference back to its original number of 12 member schools, and provide it with the opportunity to hold a championship game for football in December of 2013.

FSU and WVU had a buyout clause with liquidated damages. I know that FSU does not have a great law school, and their lawyers are likely dumb as bricks, but liquidated damages means you agree in advance how much the damages are for a breach of the contract.

And lol @ FSU who claim they are still coming to Morgantown in 2013. I highly doubt they want to play a mac school and be a one and done for WVU.

and they arnt getting the full 500k. they could have scheduled pitt or cuse who was a comparable team, but they chose Helen keller's school for the blind instead.

Plus rutgers is looking for a game. And they are the number 3 team in the land!
