Conference Realignment Thread (Hopkins Seeks Conference)

  • @Big12Conference: Neinas "The #Big12 Athletic Directors reaffirmed their commitment to 10 members."

A good look at the choice Davidson has to make between the SoCon and the CAA.

I think Davidson should stay in the SoCon, which makes me sad because I enjoyed watching the growth of the CAA.

It's Notre Dame. The SoCon would also be willing to add Notre Dame.

Conference realignment, SoCon style: some actual news (Mercer, ETSU, and VMI?) and a little speculation http://wp.me/plDgR-1jv

  • fsu fans are getting intolerable with this. they have this sense of entitlement... that the acc has cost them so much in keeping up with GATA, that they have been suffering because of tobacco road's basketball focus, that they will enjoy watching us all crumble when they leave. they're not wrong about the incompetence of the ACC brass, but they refuse to acknowledge their own part in the state of the acc today, which is if the acc owed them favorable $ and scheduling, then fsu owed the acc elite results. which it clearly has not delivered in a decade

  • F$U was brought into the ACC for football...they let Bowden hang on too long are not getting it done anymore...they have top 10 recruiting classes year in and year out so they can't complain about keeping up with other teams financially since they are getting talent. They just can't coach them or coach up a quality QB

And this is what their fans seem to not want to accept. FSU needs to get its own house in order. Start winning the ACC and you'll make the BCS, get the money, etc.

  • That 200K-300K could buy easily a dozen mansions in West Virginia, or mobile homes as they're called elsewhere.

  • what is wrong with what he is saying? This is not just a rumor they are looking to make a WAC east for a lot of reasons. Not sure all his teams are right or the number of teams he has, but it is the direction the WAC wants to be heading like it or not.

It's an absolutely ridiculous post on a ton of levels.

  • The "WAC East" concept with a bunch of FCS schools has been thrown around the blogosphere, and was mentioned by the Sun Belt commissioner in passing during a radio interview, but I can't imagine it ever happening.

  • I mean, the simple mention of Georgetown ever going D-1 in football and then playing in the Redskins stadium automatically tells me he has no idea what he is talking about.

  • The FSU board of trustees meets today. This is to discuss tuition raises, but there has been at least one report that President Barron will discuss the Big 12 rumors.

There are also reports that the Andy Haggard's term as chairman is up, and he has not stated anything about his interest in a second term.

  • The Raycom stuff is really starting to cause a stink and might put Swofford under the microscope

    PKP_313

  • Why is Raycom causing a stink? They have nothing to do with tier 3 rights.

the accusation/insinuation appears to be that swofford did not seek the highest $ deal, but more the highest $ deal that would still keep raycom in the game.

That's absurd. There were reps from other teams at the negotiations, is it really plausible that they allowed Swofford to negotiate a lower number than what was possible just to give Raycom a chance to still have ACC content?

    Devils0720

  • It's amazing that people think Swofford/the ACC just negotiate TV deals and contracts with no input from the schools.

  • The fact is that Raycom would have ceased to exist if not for the acc FB renewal. Whether or not the collective best interests of our members wad pursued is what people are questioning. It's valid to investigate when there are two potential instances of Swofford catering to his son (BC, Raycom).

#FSU BOT meeting today - Chair Andy Haggard says the BOT "could" give Barron power over realignment. Won't happen Friday, though.

Two #FSU BOT members also told me that there is no plan for the school to form any kind of fact-finding realignment committee currently.

  • After reading some of the comments from today's FSU BOT meeting, I think it's fairly clear at this point that the Florida State president has practically no interest in a move to the Big XII, and that it is probably a majority of the BOT members agrees with him.

One of the trustees suggested that the ACC push for an eight-team playoff, which isn't a bad idea from the league's point of view, but isn't likely to get immediate traction (although I think once the four-teamer is finally set, an eventual eight-team playoff will become inevitable).
