WVU fans arnt driving 4 hours to watch James Madison. It will be mostly locals.

Many of Pitt's 58 "rushing attempts" were the result qb Tino Sunseri fleeing the pocket like a man whose clothes were on fire.

    An unbiased opinion. loco

How exactly am I unbiased? I don't give a damn about VT or WVU. They're both schools with worthless athletic departments that have never won a national title in anything important.

But I am a resident of DC, and I guarantee you VT has a ton more alumni in the area.

  • I cannot recall the exact figure but a report years ago estimated the VT alums in the area to be well into the tens of thousands, I want to say over 30K. and they run some of their graduate programs out of Nova. There is no way in hell WVU has anything remotely close to that around here. I have two in-laws who are eers, they've never spoken about any other alumni in the area nor do they attend wvu events around here other than games. They do sport the blue and gold to semi-formal events however. WVU fans will travel here, they love coming to DC even for JMU. and the reason for the game is because they recruit well here...otherwise there is no significant WVU local presence, you don't see people with WVU clothing for the most part like you may see in Charlotte.

BTW, the local sports media coverage indicates that VT may even have more market share than Uva.

  • How a new media contract would affect the conference’s willingness to expand remains to be seen, but industry analysts said the Big 12 would be less likely to add more teams now that it has its primary revenue stream secured for the next 13 years.

ESPN, Fox may share Big 12 rights - SportsBusiness Daily | SportsBusiness Journal

The Big 12’s pending media rights extension with ESPN is being patterned after the Pac-12’s TV rights deal, sources told SportsBusiness Journal last week.

I dount the Big 12 says no to clemson/FSU. While we disagree, a ccg and those 2 teams wiould be cause to renegotiate upwards.

Big 10 tried to take an elite team over Mizzou-they failed. Huskers are in a smaller state than WVU and they arnt nearly as good in either sport(football or hoops). But they had the right idea. Just poor execution.

How has no one torn apart this little gem to shreds yet? Nebraska football not nearly as good as WVU football? Are you really trying to argue that?

Historically? Of course not. The last several years WVU has clearly been better. It has not even been close.

And once Saban and now miles cut off the Husker pipeline to La., they have been in steady decline.

    LOL. Clearly better!

Yeah ignore the fact WVU won a BCS Bowl over the ACC Champion by scoring the most points ever in a bowl.

Also ignore the rrod years and just focus on the STEW years. WVU has won 3 BCS bowls in the past 7 years. Sugar in 06, Fiesta, in 08, and Orange in 12. It has top 10 rankings 3 strainght years, twice in top 5.

Huskers meanwhile havnt done anything in a decade or more. Not since Osbourne retired.

Many of Pitt's 58 "rushing attempts" were the result qb Tino Sunseri fleeing the pocket like a man whose clothes were on fire.

    Nolaeer

  • I'm sure getting to a BCS game was just as difficult in the B12 as it was in the BE!

If you want to include the RRod years than why not include the Solich years or the Osbourne years? WVU had a 4-5 year period where they outperformed Nebraska but that's about it and Nebraska's overall history takes a shit on WVU's.

    jsh

  • Solich made a BCS title game, and Nebraska still fired him.

WVU has been CLEARLY better the past several years*.

    *Not including the last 4.

    jsh

  • Nebraska couldnt even win the Big 12 North which sucked. I admit they were elite under Osbourne, but they were bad ever since. Yeah they got the BCS game they should never have had with Solich as a coach, and they got tatooed.

Im not hating on Huskers, but both TCU and WVU > Huskers over the past decade. Huskers are like the Canes-has beens. And I hope no one is going to try and argue Miami's awful football program is better than WVU's(of late). it hasnt been.

Viewers arnt watching teams because they were elite in the 1990's.

Many of Pitt's 58 "rushing attempts" were the result qb Tino Sunseri fleeing the pocket like a man whose clothes were on fire.

    Nolaeer

  • Pretty delusional if you really believe that WVU has a larger fanbase and gets more eyeballs to the TV than Nebraska does. Also WVU is at best 6th fiddle in the DC area and probably doesn't even crack the top 10 realistically.

  • Miami was relevant in the last decade. West Virgina was not.

Miami was relevant in the last decade. West Virgina was not.

In the BCS era WVU has won more BCS Bowls than the entire conference Miami is in. So Id say WVU has been more relevant than the entire ACC. To say Miami is relevant is pretty nearsighted.

Now you could say WVU has not won a national title, but neither has Miami in a long time. Miami is more known for their collapse since joining the ACC, and their scandals than football achievments. Though Miami is likely still more relevant than nebraska if only because of its location.

Many of Pitt's 58 "rushing attempts" were the result qb Tino Sunseri fleeing the pocket like a man whose clothes were on fire.

  • yeah, lol, no one cares about WVU. NO ONE.

  • Did you know: bowl featuring West Virginia have seen their television ratings drop by 32% and 84% the past two years when featuring West Virginia as compared to previous years. The public has spoken, Nola, and they just do not care.

    Tabe

  • This seems to indicate WVU is the third most popular team in Pittsburgh and they're not even close to Pitt or Penn State. Also has WVU 10th in the DC region.
