Somebody defend the logic behind leaving Davis on the bench for 14+ minutes. I know the conventional coaching thing is to immediately put a guy on the bench when he gets a 2nd PF in the 1st half, but this seems pretty retarded, especially in this case.

This isn't much different than Davis fouling out with 14 minutes left in the 2nd half, except it's totally self-imposed. Put him back on the floor! There's a chance he won't even pick up a 3rd personal, and if he does, then you can think about benching him for 14 minutes.

Guarding somebody would be a good start

    Didnt mean to quote you

I mean they got the lead

  • yeah, but guys lose their rhythm sitting that long.

You gotta put him back out there for at least a couple minutes.

  • I don't think so, I would think that Kentucky has to be thinking they can't shake free of the Hoosiers. This game is not at all what I thought it would be. MAybe the best game so far in the tournament. It looks like whoever has fresh legs for the last 5 minutes will win this game.

wait a minute, that ref talking to Crean is from the ACC

I did not see this but I am guessing it was Ray Natili.

Mark Whitehead and Ed Corbett (LOL) are the other officials.

  • That was the best half of cbb I've seen this season

  • there are no more games after this one if you lose, you got the player of the year in foul trouble with 2 fouls and you maintained the lead/were only down by 2-3 pts all half, I think that's pretty good coaching

I guarantee Davis would have been put in if IU went up by 8-10....just like Crean put in Zeller when they got down 8 or so

if you put in Davis "just to get some rhythm" and ends up getting a silly foul...and you're leading....that can come back to haunt you, not to mention it makes you look like a dumb coach

Or maybe you put him back out there, he avoids picking up a 3rd foul and you stretch the lead out to double digits at halftime. Just sayin'

The point is that by sitting him for 14 minutes straight when he picks up his second foul, you guarantee he sits for 14 minutes staright. By playing him again in the first half, you at least have a chance that the need for Davis to sit 14 minutes in a row will be unnecessary. Putting him back out there for at least a few minutes can quite realistically result in him not picking up another foul at all or for at least long enough where it is not prohibitive to him playing. The fact that they're up 3 is irrelevant. Edisto's argument clearly implies that UK could be up by more if they had played the best player in the nation for more than spot minutes in the first half. It's just a thing that coaches automatically do, quite often without reason.

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?

  • Why am I nervous for this game at all. Great game.

  • I would agree if this weren't a tourney game, you don't gamble like that with a one and done scenario.

  • the pace of this game is excellent - it barely lets clark kellog speak

If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?

  • Indiana will not let Kentucky get away.

    TheFranchise23

  • OMG was I the only one who saw that KY fan with the "BROW down" (with the anthony davis unibrow over top) shirt?

If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?

    chrs0049

  • They have a lot of shirts that allude to that ugly ass thing on his head, they embrace that shit in Kentucky.

    TheFranchise23

  • UNLIMITED SWAG

Kentucky didn't miss a single free throw once Indiana went into foul mode. Cold as ice.

So I respond "Tell you what, I'll read Dreams of My Father if you read MEIN KAMPF"

  • I really a think a coach as good as Calipari, who can get this much out of his players, would be much better suited taking his immense talents to the NBA.
