This is what needs to happen. I would actually support this 100%.
1. Ovechkin is amnestied.
2. The Penguins sign him.
3. He goes back to 35+/year and the Pens win four Cups in six years while it all gets shoved up Ted's gaping a-hole.
I would be behind this five billion %.

It's depressing how much faster and smoother he looks in his old clips. He was so legit and powerful yet still nimble and quick. He was literally perfect. And now he just looks slow and his stick skills just don't look the same. It's like he has lost his passion. There's no fire.

He honestly looks like he's just getting in the way on the right side. I don't know if he's tanking it because he doesn't want to be over there (wouldn't put it past him) or if he's just so inflexible that he isn't capable, but he's noticeably ineffective there.

He probably should have made some effort to improve or diversify his game instead of just remaining the same player with eroding physical ability.

I really think Ovechkin's problem is the Catch-22 of star athletes and big contracts in professional sports. When you got a superior talent, you pay him huge bucks to keep him (or alternately, pay him huge bucks to come play for your team if that player is an FA), but once that player gets paid, there is no longer any incentive to perform. The Redskins routinely make that mistake, paying too much for veteran free agents who do nothing once they get here. It takes character to get the big money, and still maintain that drive to succeed. When OV got his big contract (and really, he deserved it, the Caps had no choice but to pay him), my biggest worry would be that he would never live up to it. We are talking about a poor kid from the Urals who never had anything until he came here, now he's top of the world he would rather be out living it up than skating. That last time he showed any interest was during the Olympics, and when he failed to bring home the gold (and worse, Crosby won it for Canada and was the big hero), the wind just seemed to go out of his sails. He hasn't been the same player since.
