2012 European Soccer Offseason Thread

  • (Insert birdie bags some groceries joke here)

Anyways, should be an interesting market out there this summer. The Euros should be an interesting time and could do a lot to shape the European transfer market. There are some big names out there on squads that failed to make the Champions League. And what to do with Di Matteos?

To spice it up, I've listed 26 of the most speculated transfer targets here. I probably missed some no brainers, and I threw in some up-and-comers that I am personally interested in tracking, and a couple of wildcards.

Where do you think these 26 go?

    Robin van Persie (Arsenal) -
    Eden Hazard (Lille) -
    Shinji Kagawa (Borussia Dortmund) -
    Mario Balotelli (Manchester City) -
    Edinson Cavani (Napoli) -

    Kaka (Real Madrid) -
    Gonzalo Higauin (Real Madrid) -
    Didier Drogba (Chelsea) -
    Hulk (FC Porto) -
    Yann M'Vila (Stade Rennes) -

    Olivier Giroud (Montpellier) -
    Neymar (Santos) -
    Yohan Cabaye (Newcastle) -
    Javi Martinez (Athletic Bilbao) -
    Nico Gaitan (Benfica) -

    Andre Schurrle (Bayer Leverkusen) -
    Xherdan Shaqiri (FC Basel) -
    Christian Eriksen (Ajax) -
    Younes Belhanda (Montpellier) -
    Thiago Silva (AC Milan) -

    Gareth Bale (Tottenham) -
    Luka Modric (Tottenham) -
    Ezequiel Lavezzi (Napoli) -
    Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan) -
    Carlos Tevez (Manchester City) -

    Clint Dempsey (Fulham) -

  • Ah, had no clue about the Bayern move for Shaquiri. He'll be a good pick up for them.

And yes, birdie, Ade is probably another one worth mentioning. I just felt more compelled about the two players on his loaned team, and the two from his parent club. I don't think he'll receive adequate value as a transfer, so I think he'll try to fish out a CL team interested in him (maybe a loan move to Juve if they whiff on strikers?).

  • Bye bye Bosingwa and Kalou.

Kalou on a free would be a total Wenger move. But I wouldn't hate it.

  • I am really not sure on most of them, but a few I do have opinions on:

    RVP - Arsenal
    Balotelli - Stays
    Hazard - City or Chelsea
    Neymar - Barca
Tevez - No idea, but I don't see him staying
Higuain - No idea, but I don't see him staying

  • Good way to start the week for Arsenal fans:

But his wife, Bouchra, believes the striker should repay the faith Arsenal showed in him when he was struggling for form and pointed to the fact that their family are settled in London.

"Arsenal showed faith in Robin when he was going through a lean time, so we should not repay them by thinking about other clubs," she was quoted as saying in the Sun. "Our home life and our children are happy in London."

Also, Kagawa to United is almost a done deal

Well, with Juventus being one of his suitors, the Italian match-fixing scandal is working in Arsenal's favor to keep RVP.

  • Theres also a weird rumor going around that Arsenal has agreed to a fee for Llorente. A bunch of newspapers have picked it up, but it seems so out of left field to me.

I thought that Llorente rumor was nothing more than a twitter hoax. Although to be fair, I haven't really looked that much into its validity.
