Whopper vs. Big Mac

  • artielange said...

I've never ordered a whopper without being asked if I want cheese. It then takes me two seconds to answer and get cheese on the whopper.

If you're talking cost - I've ordered Big Macs with no cheese and they don't reduce the cost.

I don't know if your BK does it, but mine adds 0.30 for cheese.

I think this is a generational thing. This plethora of decent fast food places like five guys, chipotle, potbelly's, chik fil a, qdoba et al is a relatively new thing. For most of the guys in their thirties on this board, the fast food options were pretty sparse growing up. We basically had mcdonalds, bk, kfc, roys, and wendys. When I was growing up even shit like subway and taco bell didn't really exist until high school.

If I'm traveling and have stop for a quick burger in shithole, pennsylvania (i drive to and fro syracuse to dc a lot), I'll stop at Wendys for a burger and fries. I think Wendy's burgers are superior to both bk and mcd and I've found a place on my route that makes decent fries.

pretty much nails it...growing up if you wanted a burger those were your options...now if I want a burger I will pay the dollar more and go to five guys...wen you have kids though you end up at McDonalds every now and then...still prefer the big mac but the fact there is no meat on it anymore has me cherry picking the dollar menu

I didn't think about it this way and how many more choices there are now, but yeah, growing up, those were the predominant quick food options. You could barely find a Taco Bell anywhere and there were only a handful of Subway and similar sub shops. You had some Hardees in the DC area and for a brief time and when I was VERY young there was Burger Chef. I'd say it went McDonald's, Roys, BK and Wendy's, in terms of fast food domination around here in the 80s. And even today, if you live on the west coast, there are even more choices.

So I could see how someone below the age of say, 25/26 has been able to avoid McDonald's and Burger King when you could simply go to Five Guys for your burger fix.

  • Really tough not to sling all my downvotes in this thread. I go with the Big Mac mostly because every single motherfucking time I go to BK the burger has clearly been microwaved in its wrapper. Every time. At their best it's closer, but I still need that thousand island-ish fix from time to time.

And I feel for you east coasters that don't have the Big Carl option. Big Mac with like twice the meat and no third bread slice. Pretty damn legit.

  • i'm pretty sure that anything from carl's jr can be had at hardee's.

Phatboy if you had any balls I'd meet you at the AFA Boxing gym and have Coach Weichers put some gloves on us.

  • I don't like that Thousand Island sauce...so it's Whopper for me.

I don't see anything that looks like it on their online menu. Plus Hardee's is still confined to the south, right?

Well, do you expect it to be any different?

No. That's why BK is my least favorite fast food spot and I rarely go there.

Bout to go try those new Wendy's chili fries by the way.

  • Wendys has gotten pretty good over the last few months. It's probably the only fast food burger I get anymore.

I'd agree that of that class of fast food restaurants Wendy's is putting out the best burger. Their recent foray into breakfast has also been impressive.

  • Did I imagine a time when McDonald's put quarter pound patties in Big Macs?

    Have never had either one

WAT!? Aren't you the guy that never saw the wire or shawshank as well?

I get people not eating either as adults but to never have tried one, you had to grow up in a rain forest, a prison or have been an abused child.

As for me, as a kid, I thought the big Mac was the shit. It was unquestionably my go to fast food choice. I scoffed at those ordering quarter pounders with cheese. I laughed at anyone claiming something from another fast food joint was better. Then, somewhere along the line, maybe college, maybe law school, I gave the whopper a chance. I have never looked back. Once every 5 yrs or so, I'll get a big Mac just to remind myself of those younger days but I never have an itch for another. I still get in "whopper" moods. It only happens 4 or 5 times a year but I never regret it.

    Answer: whopper

There is never a reason to eat any of that crap.

Just stop the madness. There are always reasons. You may not like them or agree with them. Enjoy your wheat germ and grape nuts.

I could have scripted the responses to this thread. I don't care if you're John Basedow. You've tasted these sandwiches.

With that being said I care as much about your answer as I do about your diet and workout regimen.

It's just funny to watch you being so fucking predictable.

I usually enjoy um90's work here but sometimes I want to give him kiss (nohomo)

Definitely my go-to place for fast food.

Never eaten either and never will. It's a pretty sad commentary that that's considered weird.

Were you shunned in hs? Friendless? No one cared about fat content or shit like that. We were indestructible. I watched a guy down 14 quarter pounders and 20 mcnuggets on a dare in one sitting. He's a doctor now. Lighten up Francis.

No way! BK has always had better burgers, but McDonald's has better fries.

That's why you order it without something they normally put on it. No mayo gets you a freshly made burger. McD's has more meat in their sausage patty than in the big Mac now.

I used to think that way. Had a couple bad experiences there about 10 yrs ago and haven't returned. Maybe I need to give it a shot one of these times when hitting a drive thru on a trip.

  • Of the big 3 Wendy's is by far the best 'fast food' burger follow by BK(not a close second) and McD's (even a more distant third)

Wendy's has been killing it lately. The chili cheese fries I just ate may be their first misstep in awhile. Don't see those sticking around but haven't tried the other two "premium sides" yet.

    TheGreenBastard

  • I've actually never had either. When I go to BK I get chicken fries or a tendercrisp sandwich. When I go to McDonalds I get nuggets or a dub cheese.

Nope. Never any reason, unless you are somehow stranded in a desert that has a McDonalds. Any other reasoning is just an excuse.

  • I'm definitely not some health nut either. I eat unhealthy foods just like everyone else, just when I do, I try to make it something that's actually good instead of what is essentially garbage.
