  • For me it would have to be a high school football game between University and Morgantown when Cory as a Freshman in high school playing DE and FB and his older brother was the Senior tail back and Safety. University lost 12-7 to a ringer loaded Morgantown HS team. LOL!!! They went on to win the state title, and this was the Play-Offs, and UHS got ref raped. Brady fumbled a KO at his own goal line and then went 100 yards for a TD, and they threw a flag behind the play at about the 15, and it cost UHS the TD and the game. Terrible call, and it took Brady out of the WV State Records for KO return (you could tie 100 yards but never break it.). I was more than a little pissed.

It's kind of amazing that my kids' games could get me more upset than anything else compared to most of you folks. College, Pros in any sport doesn't compute on my hurt scale as much as games I played in and lost or watched my kids play and lose (or get screwed in.)

  • I sat in Cole for like 30 minutes with my head on the seat in front of me after Gone in 54 Seconds. There was no anger, only devastation.

  • Gone in 54 seconds was the worst sports related experience of my life. I was stunned, angry, and upset for days after that. I couldnt believe my eyes watching that in Cole.

  • I really don't remember if I was more angry or depressed for Butler. I did not actually drink much during the game, but I sure did afterwards.

But I do remember having a lurker yell out something like "Hey OT?" that night at IIRC NcDevins in Canton.

    Wrong:

National title goes bye bye in Morgantown. What was worse VT beat Miami 31-7 the following week. Oh what could have been EAM!!!!

In frank beamer's 23 years of coaching, no stretch was tougher than the last 10 days of October. It started when his third-ranked Virginia Tech team let a potential undefeated season slip away for the fourth time in as many years, losing 28-7 at West Virginia on Oct. 22. Then, having been caught on camera slapping receiver Ernest Wilford on the helmet during the game, Beamer was ashamed and apologized for his uncharacteristic behavior. Finally there was the intense preparation for last Saturday's game against Big East nemesis Miami, which hadn't lost a regular-season game since September 2000 and hadn't been beaten by a conference opponent since November 1999.

"I was embarrassed by the Ernest situation, and I must be taking losses harder than I did when I was younger, because I wasn't sleeping," said Beamer. "It was an awful week."

What a difference beating the Hurricanes can make. By demolishing Miami 31-7, the Hokies moved back into the national title picture, jumping five spots in the AP poll to No. 5 and moving up to No. 6 in the BCS standings. Virginia Tech got back on track by playing Beamer's signature brand of football: opportunistic defense and momentous special teams play. Among the highlights: junior cornerback Eric Green's blocked field goal in the first quarter, junior cornerback DeAngelo Hall's fumble recovery and 28-yard return for a touchdown in the second quarter, and Green's 51-yard interception return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Hall's and Green's scores gave the defense and special teams a combined 10 touchdowns this season, the most in the nation.

Virginia Tech had strayed from Beamerball against West Virginia. The defense allowed tailback Quincy Wilson to rush for 178 yards, and the special teams did nothing special.

    lol

Dude I know you're just trolling but we lost 5 games that year. UVA beat us. Let that sink in. U-V-A. We didn't even finish the year ranked. Not a good team, sort of like the WVU team that went to Blacksburg next year with a #6 ranking and lost...

  • 1.) Duke Loss in Final Four - I was only 10 when it happened but as soon as the final whistle blew i yelled out "I hope your plane crashes on the way home and you all die"... I was grounded for a week and the parents almost made me go to counseling for that one

2.) Redskins playoff L in 2000 at the Bucs - We were up 13-0 and then blew it and the the bad snap/hold fiasco. I yelled "It's not fair, they f***ing suck"... Grounded another week even though I was right, TB did suck.

3.) Clemson 08 - I was more stunned than anything else but then my brother (who always likes to make fun of my teams when they lose) started laughing and saying how they suck. I gave him a right to the face. Parents actually sided with me on that one.

Didn't really get mad after gone in 54 seconds, i just sat down and cried. Michigan St game I was watching it in my dorm with friends and I was just sad to see Greivis go down like that, everyone was about the same after that one.

  • the chad rampage after clemson was brutal. we all just threw gasoline onto each other's fires, I think, making it worse. Next would be the loss to Butler was more frustrating because I got a phone call from my neighbor, a "Terps Fan," with under a minute to go. I was so angry at him for calling right then.

In a similar fashion, the MSU game was the worst game for me. I was watching the game at my parents' place, and my dad was being annoying. I was being silent for much of the game, so he was upset with me for not carrying the conversation.I just wanted to watch the game in peace and quiet. I was prepared for a numbing Terps loss. Then he randomly decides to go do errands and guess what! We stage a comeback. He comes back but starts watching the game upstairs, and our lead holds. THEN HE DECIDES TO COME WATCH THE ENDING OF THE GAME DOWNSTAIRS WITH ME. The entire time I'm stewing, saying "just go back upstairs" over and over in my head. It seemed like that game flowed with my mood, which was just another kick in the nuts.

As far as non-Terps, I am a big Vikings fan, and two stick out to me. '03 vs the Cardinals in Week 17. I had my friends come over and we were watching all the games on Sunday Ticket. Most had left after the 1:00 games, but one of my friends was still over. He eventually lost interest and moved from the TV area to one of my computers. The Vikings defense has been shit for years but finally is having a good season under O'Leary, but he got hired at UCF before our season ended and left the staff. The D has one of their worst games of the year and is just pathetic on the Cards' final drive. We actually have McCown in our grasps, but he escapes and keeps the drive alive. The next play, he throws to Nate Poole in the back of the endzone and thankfully he comes down way out of bounds. But fuck me, the refs think he would have come down in bounds? No fucking way. Oh yeah, my friend just looks at me and says, "tough loss." Again, I just needed to be alone after that raping, not hear some bullshit.

After that, the loss to the Saints in the NFC championship game stung. Now, I firmly believe that neither the Vikes nor the Saints played well enough to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl, so I'm not bitter that we lost, but I am bitter how we lost. Even though we pissed away several opportunities through fumbles or interceptions, we were still in position to win it until awful, awful reffing whored us in overtime. You can overcome bad calls or bad play early in the game, and it gets tougher and tougher as the game goes on. It's near impossible to overcome drive-extending bad calls in a sudden death setting. Add in that I hate Brett Favre more than just about any sports figure, I was in a rage by the end of the game. I was asking the bartenders to warm up tequila for me so I could suffer less than I was from the game. I was cussing up a storm, most of it directed toward Favre and the refs. I still don't acknowledge the Saints' Super Bowl victory, but damn that game sucked.

It was still beamer's worse moment bc he had title hopes. 6-0 start. He lost it and slapped one of his players on national tv.

Beamer just melted down. he threw in the towel before the 4th quarter and was punting just to get the game over with. Little vick was making like a fool on the sidelines flipping the bird at the fans. Just a total meltdown by the Hokies.

Many of Pitt's 58 "rushing attempts" were the result qb Tino Sunseri fleeing the pocket like a man whose clothes were on fire.

Seriously? I would have high-fived my kid for that one.

I remember being in Best Buy a few days or weeks after that game and they had that game on every TV in there for some reason. I was so angry there was no way I was going to buy anything.

  • October 3rd, 1982...Memorial Stadium, Baltimore. The O's were playing the Brewers in the final game of the season. Both teams were tied for first place...winner went to the playoffs, loser went home. Jim Palmer (15-4) vs Don Sutton (16-9). Palmer picked that day to perfect his BP fastball...he was ineffectively followed by Tippy and Dennis Martinez, and Mike Flanagan. The O's lost 10-2.

Wow - I forgot that one. To make it more dramatic, the O's were 3 games behind going into the final 4 games with the Brewers. They won Friday, and 2 on Saturday to set up the winner-take-all final. Massive disappointment.
