Walking Dead....

I am enjoying the show trying to look past the amount of absurd writing that is starting to pile up.

Dale is apparently surprised that they haven't found a cache of antibiotics in the abandoned cars. Really, who deosn't drive around with stockpiles of antibiotics? We find out who does, X and meth addicts always keep stashes of doxycycline for their chronic cases of the clap. Who else keeps ABs in the glove box for those annoying cases of the clap?

The woman seems awfully calm that her child is lost in woods crawling with zombies. I'd be hysterical if my dog was lost in woods, even without zombies.

Grimes has a bad case of cabin fever/ants in the pants. He is constantly coming up ith excuses to leave the farm house. Gotta go tell Lori, gotta go to the school and get supplies, gotta go after Shane. He has to go to the 7-11 and get some OJ. Just let him go already.

How do people stay well stocked with orange juice in a post-apocalyptic zombie world?

If my child were sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound in a post-apocalyptic world and it just happened to be in the bachyard of a man with medical training who possed some medical supplies, I'd be on my knees in awe of my dumb luck. Lori chooses to curse him because he's a vet then tells him he's in over his head. WTF? Take your son to the nearest hospital then Lori.

The antibiotic thing makes sense because those cars are there from people trying to desperately escape the zombie apocalypse. They weren't just out for a cruise. I'm sure they had tons of things in their vehicle that they wouldn't have normally been carrying.

I somewhat see what you are saying about the other stuff, but in non way does it lessen my enjoyment of the show.

  • FWIW, I didn't have any problem with Rick trying to leave the farm. The show has presented him as a "man of action" in that he's constantly trying to do something to help or improve things (even if many times his actions end up counterproductive). So he tries to combat his helplessness regarding his son by needing to do something. Whether it is find Lori, or go for the needed medical supplies, or whatever.

I find the Rick character pretty interesting as the show presents him.

  • One thing about Rick - everyone here would normally be making fun of him for being a Deputy Dawg in a redneck southern town, except for a zombie apocalypse happening, so we call him a hero/man of action/yadda

  • As for people questioning why last year Rick/Glenn (HOF intro to Glenn's character btw) covered themselves in blood and got a way with it, it's because there was no other way for them to get from point a to point b than that.

At the end of ep 1 in season 1, Rick hides under the tank hoping nobody would see him, but a zombie happened to see him and everyone took notice. I think it was a matter of them getting lucky in S2Ep1 of hiding under trucks. You could tell some were nervous and hoping they would avoid being spotted.

  • I think Rick is an awesome character and I think the actor does a solid job. Really solid casting job and pretty good writing for the part.

And I have no problem with him going crazy at the farmhouse. His son just got shot and he was supposed to be looking after him. Before that, a little girl went missing after he was watching her. For most of the show he'd been the leader and tried to do soooo much. Now shit is really falling apart underneath him and he's cracking. Remember they flashbacked in the most recent ep and Lori was telling her friend at the schoolyard that Rick is almost too nice of a guy most of the time and it was pissing her off. Well now you can see all the responsibility put on his shoulders and all the pressure of him being a multi-tasker is coming back to haunt him.

Oh and someone last year tried to tell me how the actor who plays Shane would be a good Rick, I said no f'n way.

    rufreshterps

  • Yeah, I did love Momma Bear getting pissy with the guy trying desperately to save her shot child.

"YOU'RE A VET?!? YOU'RE IN OVER YOUR HEAD!"

Oh, I'm sorry ma'am, lemme just frolic on over to Johns Hopkins and see if I can scoot your boy in to the pediatric ward.

How awesome was Darryl raiding his brother's drug stash at the end of the episode?

And if I'm not mistaken, Merle had some of Walter's blue meth. HAD to be a nod to Breaking Bad. Even in a post-apocalyptic zombie hellscape, Walter and Jessie are still cooking.

Link notes that my first impression was right. Awesome little joke.

Late to this post, but I caught that when it happened and my wife was trying to figure out wtf I was loling about. First time I paused/rewound with this series.

100% agree. It really was great.

  • BTW, even though my wife was shaky about it, I've let my 12 year-old son watch this show with me this season. I figured wtf, zombies aren't real after all and I'm not a big believer in the theory that certain tv shows really affect kids much anyway. I think that last scene shook him up a bit though. Funny that a scene that showed what one human is capable of doing to another and not what a zombie can do is what I needed to worry about. That is what made that scene great though.

  • Sorry if this has been already discussed, but how does the house still have working electricity? Generator? I must have missed the part where this was explained.

I was wondering that too, I don't think they explained it, I assumed since they aren't too far from the highway that they have generators and they just raid the abandoned cars for gas. I also don't think they've explained the security situation there. There was talk of a "gate" but they don't seem too concerned about zombies wandering in.

Does he watch the gore or turn his head away?

At first I was assuming that in the timeline of the story they were only a few days or maybe a week into the outbreak and that maybe the power grid hadn't given out yet but then I remembered that the CDC was without power so I guess it would have to be generator power but then you have other questions like how would they still have running water, fresh juice, etc? And I'm sure if they were on generators then they'd be really stingy with the use of electricity. A lot of things aren't quite adding up.

How much time has elapsed since the initial outbreak?

    Not a jack ass. I am a 4 star poster on RCMB - spartanfan48413

They haven't said but it has been at least a few weeks. Rick was in a coma long enough for society to completely collapse but not so long that he starved to death. Then he was with the group out near the quarry for around a week, they spent a few days at the CDC, a few days traveling from the CDC to their current location.

He has no problem w/ the gore.

  • As soon as Shane came back alone, I knew what had happened, but I was hoping Shane would have at least given the poor bastard a head shot. It's not like the zombies still wouldn't have munched on him, but I'll take one to the dome over shredded to death any day.

It's very interesting seeing the differences between Shane and Carl so far from the comics. It's a totally different take on it, but I like both angles.
