Unoffical O'Malley job performance poll

LOL at Franchot's grandstanding. Miller isn't going anywhere. Has way, way too much power- but is not going anywhere.

Franchot is running for governor, and he is triangulating himself as the voice of reason between a tax-happy governor and the dysfunctional General Assembly. I'm not saying he's sincere, but he's definitely an opportunist here.

    Totally agree.

Will be an interesting race with Brown, Gansler, and Franchot.

  • Franchot and Gansler are political streetfighters. It will be interesting to see if Brown can play that kind of hardball.

I wonder if Brown lets them duke it out, and just rides the black vote to victory (?)

All 3 are decent politicians, and I don't see anyone bowing out like Doug Duncan did a few years ago.

We are so F'd for years to come....not like this has changed over the years, but there was at least Dems like Schafer in the past.

  • How does the GA fail to pass anything? It's not like the Republicans are holding things up.

The Senate slow-played the budget during the final week to try and get the House to pass the Senate's gambling bill (table games, a new PG casino). It blew up in their faces and they ran out of time on both bills.

  • Martin O'Malley sucks. And so do the two Mikes who actually run the State. These assholes cannot cut spending, preferring to transfer money from the people who are working to bottomless pits line PG County and Baltimore City while funneling as much money to public employee unions as can be moved.

Oh, who will rid us of these foul officials? Apparently not enough legal voters to do so...!

Gansler is the next governor, period. It has already been decided in the smoke filled back rooms. Gansler is moving around the State EVERYWHERE!

Franchot is winning nothing; he returns as Comptroller.

  • Franchot is actually a decent guy unlike most of the other Maryland Dems currently or in last 5 years. All of the others you could count on 2 hands maybe just 1

  • I hate to interrupt the O'Malley sucks circle-jerk, but he's coming on my show tomorrow morning. Are there any questions or topics that we may not have thought of that anyone would like us to bring up? Keep in mind that this is a morning talk show type interview, so we're not going to be totally grilling him and we don't have a ton of time to get into policy minutiae.

I felt like I should have issued an amber alert for myself, just in case

  • I can't give you anything you could say/use on the air. I loathe the man.

Ask him why he likes to bend us over and shove tax increases up our a$$ every year....oh and also ask him if he knows the meaning of "cutting spending", "restraint" or "living within your means"?

Yeah, you're certainly not alone. Obviously even if I have strong feelings one way or the other, I just have to put that aside for the ten minutes he's there.

Yes, because that's clearly going to be asked on network television. I didn't think I'd have to put a disclaimer in, but how about we stick to stuff that's actually, I don't know, somewhere in the general vicinity of realistic?

You would def just get some lame canned answer, but I think you could sincerely ask him:

"Governor, you have taken considerable heat in the press for your desire to raise the gasoline tax, at a time when gas prices are already over $4/gallon. After that failed in the democratically controlled house, you countered with raising the sales tax (another) point. That is also likely to fail. What do you say to your opponents who say you are out of touch with the middle class Maryland resident?"

    irishbmad

  • Ask him how he expects to win a presidential election with a history of huge middle class tax hikes?

We can definitely try to ask something along those lines, although I can already tell you his answer will be something to the effect of "Maryland's most valuable resource is our people, and we have to continue investing in areas like education to keep that edge."

Which does bring up something I've been wondering about since the tax measure failed. Funding for areas where education is more expensive would take the biggest hit (it's called geographic cost of education or something). The state spent $129 million on that last year, does anyone know if it's typical for states to do this?

Hey that's what i would ask him...any "real" question you ask him is not going to be answered and he will respond in the fashion you posted, which is some focus group tested BS non-answer answer.

  • Just once I would like someone to ask MOM(or any other dem) why when a budget is cut it is always police, firefighters and teachers who are publicaly stated to take the hit? What about the countless bean counters and warm bodies filling seats? What about politicians exhorbanent pensions?

How does the GA fail to pass anything? It's not like the Republicans are holding things up.

The culture of the General Assembly is very often about the House vs. the Senate. Because they have a finite 90-day window to approve bills, the one chamber will very often hold the other chamber's bills hostage ... which will the cause a reverse hostage taking. It's a flipping mess, and one of the reasons few bills of substance get passed before the final week. Of course, a governor with real leadership can be active in pushing legislation through, but O'Malley doesn't play that game very much, so it's up to the Mikes to be the star chamber that decides what gets through. And if they disagree, well, you have the mess you saw on Sine Die.

BTW, the last governor who was really active in playing superlegislator was, of all people, Crazy Willie Don Schaefer. He was very big on pushing bills--especially appropriations--through the General Assembly at lightning speed.
