  • You should just take the trains - I hear they are affordable. And make sure you are up on all of your immunizations.

I don't know what you mean, but it had the cadence of a joke.

  • Sounds like a great trip -- I've done certain segments of that trip. Be careful what you eat/drink.

If you ignore most of Africa, South America, and Asia (i.e., a majority of the world), then yes.

That's a bit of a broad statement. There's plenty of wonderful places to live on those 3 continents.

Also, I am very jealous of your trip to India. It's certainly on my list.

  • Why on earth would I be butthurt? Unlike you, who was probably born here and lucked into living in this country, I actually chose to move from somewhere else and live in this country. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who appreciates living here instead of living there more than I do.

Cool posts, guys!!! You don't seem dumb or ignorant at all.

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?

  • And yes, what is with writing that everything is private?

I've lived and traveled for work all over the world and the one consistent thing I hear is - Don't go to India unless your life depends on it, and even then weigh the consequences.

It's not dumb, ignorant or a stereo type; it's a reality. Have fun..

My wife has always wanted to go, and I normally would not be the type.....but we are staying in all five star hotels, have a private guide in each city, and now I am really looking forward too it. Also I made sure part of the trip was at the beach!

After our wedding we did 1 week in DR, and now this is the longer honeymoon.

  • Here is what I can speak to...Mumbai, Goa, and Dehli

You will see the most poverty I have ever seen anywhere, and that includes Africa, Asia, etc...adults naked walking around using the bathroom right in the median...it is disgusting

You will have some of the best food you will ever eat in your life, I recommend Old Calcutta and Krishna in Mumbai...expensive by India standards, but clean and great...

Stay at the Taj, that is where I stayed...great hotel and free bottle water everywhere, very important...

Goa, beach life, you will like this the best...

Dehli, see the poverty above...get out asap

  • "Devil Belly" is a term I've heard from almost all of my friends who have been there. I would pack 19 days rations of US food.

thanks! the company we are using gave us a prelim list of places we might want to eat (both are on there). they will make the reservations before we go.

Will be interesting to see how much $$$ meals cost. a lot of the "tours" have meals included. We picked one that they are not, and this way we choose where and when to go etc.

I booked the taj in Mumbai, all the hotels look amazing!

I've been, it's fine. Sorry you've spoken to people who don't seem to know what they're talking about. Colbert, I'm sure this is obvious to you but don't eat off the street, drink bottled water and you should be cool. I have a weak stomach and actually didn't have too much trouble with the food...just one night of a little, extended toilet time which interestingly enough came after going to one of the nicer restaurants we went to while there. Like tccdc says great food and at such great prices. One of the better meals I had in Gujarat was like $12. Won't always be that cheap but nowhere near US prices for the most part. We ate at the Taj a few times, good stuff, similar prices to here but nice to get more Americanized food if you want it.

LOL. If someone doesn't like something that you do they don't know what they are talking about? I know three different people who went there and two of them have traveled the world extensively. They all said it was terrible. Unbelievable poverty, terrible stench and animals all over the place are some of the things they complained about.
