The Worst Generation

  • JManslow said...

Since there is a Greatest Generation, there must be a worst one too. Personally, I nominate the Baby Boomers. I would have said my generation (I guess we're called Millennials) until we got boned by the baby boomers being the greediest sumbitches on the planet. Also, because my generation is the product of the Baby Boomers, they bear a lot of responsibility for how lazy and selfish we all are.

    What say ye, suque?

I am four older then the oldest Boomers, but I agree with this assessment. The Boomers spawned the most self centered, self absorbed and entiltlement oriented children on record. As the Boomers get into the retirement age, look for them to vote themselves their children's (and grandchildren's) money to cover their own inadequate preparation for retirement. They will do this because they beleive did so much for their kids (things never done for them), accordingly they will have no hesitation in taking back to live better in retirement.

Harsh assessment, but that is how I see it!

It was due to the fact that they survived The Great Depression, and most able man (and woman) went into service without being drafted during WWII.

No Boomer was born by the time the Depression ended nor were they yet born by the time WW2 ended.

A theory I've always had is that even though a common criticism of the Greatest Generation was that they were still segregated, racist, etc., etc. that they were actually just as progressive and forward thinking as the generation that actually did spear head the Civil Rights movement. They were just to busy to fix racism in America because they were to busy SAVING THE WORLD.

Racist Jim Crow was alive and well during the time of the Greatest Generation was in charge; that was despicable. But before throwing this demographic under the bus, any simple review of African American marital status (ie two parent families), school accomplishment (high school graduation), employment percentages (blacks actual had a historic higher rate of employment then did whites), etc, you would find today's stats would not compare favorably to those during the time the Greatest Generation ran things, despite Jim Crow).

Terp02 was talking about the greatest generation, not the baby boomers.

In terms of current sexual attractiveness, I think the people before the Baby Boomers are the worst.

IMHO, people currently in their 20s are the best generation.

Every generation has had obstacles to wrestle with to achieve happiness and financial security. IMO the folks in their 20's have bought too far into the notion that government is the source of today's success. It is the government, and its overreach, which has dried up opportunity!

  • I'd like to reconsider my position. The generation born in the 90s is definitely the shittiest generation. Some of my buddy's are high school teachers and rip these kids on a daily basis. They sound horrible.

I'm happy that I barely made the cutoff for the 80's. I mean anyone who was born in 93 or later and claims to be a 90's kid is fucked up in the head.

Dude, what about the kids born in the 2000's. They are completely worthless; none of them have any interest in getting a job. Some of my buddies are preschool school teachers and tell me how these kids poop their pants on a daily basis. I think we can confidently say they are the least accomplished and dependent generation in history.

George Washington served two terms. People that were wealthy before the revolution were still wealthy after it, but they avoided a huge tax bill they owed to the British.

No question he should have hid his money in the caymans like Romney and avoided that whole trip through ny in the winter.

I never really understood the term "the greatest generation". Was it because the women went to work in WW2? They all pulled together in time of need? It just doesn't seem like it was all that great if you were a minority living in the south.

I have only read to this, the third or fourth post, but it really nails it. And the "greatest generation" which is called that for supposed sacrifice, then spent the next 60 years walking around with their hand out expecting the rest of us to foot everything.

They created an oppressive society predicated on the notion that the only person of importance was a white man until this ridiculous notion was destroyed by baby boomers (of which I do not belong to).

If anything, the OP has it directly backwards

Plus the boomers gave us rock and roll.

Baby boomers were around 18 when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. They could not vote at the time, and I don't recall any notable 18 year olds using their influence to ensure its passage. So...that would kind of leave it up to "TGG", no?

And yeah, TGG is sucking it up until now, but besides winning WW II and putting an end to FDR's unending Great Depression, everything good that occurred up until about 1970 is at least on their watch. That's a LOT of economic development.

For the most part, TGG music DID suck, imo.

I have faith in the Millenials (my generation) because we are less selfish and more values oriented than our previous couple generations (Gen X and the Baby Boomers). Take for example the fact that social entrepreneurship has blown up along with social investing. In addition, we have kids who join the military knowing that they are 100% going to war at least once. That alone gives me faith in this country.

As a veteran, I really believe that although we may have our slackers in society, they will soon be inspired by the leaders that will be coming through from our generation.
