The My Favorite Gun Thread

  • I have never heard of the spent shell thing but I know when I bought mine in MD they were required to put one of those in-barrel locks in place before I could leave with it. Is there no gun shop around you that you can ask to simply order it so you can buy it from them?

When I purchased my XDm .45 (avatar) online, the print shells were provided and sent by Springfield via my FFL Bart's without my knowledge or interaction. The in-barrel lock was required to be sold to me, but when I picked the gun up from Bart's, it was uninstalled and included with the accessories, although they made a point of demonstrating to me how I was to install it.

I guess it comes down to how customer-driven the manufacturer, the online company, and your FFL. You can save a few bucks anywhere along the way but it can sure be a PITA, and you often don't find out until you've already made the purchase, so read up on your state requirements before you buy and if in doubt, ask your FFL before you buy. I've had great experience with Bud's and Tombstone Tactical online, and Bart's as FFL. The $50 I didn't save was well worth the ease of these transactions.

    WTF

  • I've mentioned this before but I just wanted to reiterate how completely asinine DC's registration policies are. Just pathetic their entire goal is to make life miserable for everyone who wants to be in compliance while unregistered guns are used all over the place in committing actual crimes.

    MuddyLake

  • Yeah they usually do the shell thing before you buy it, and Maryland law requires you to leave the gun shop with an internal lock inside the gun.

I don't want to spend the money right now since need to do something car wise but probably going to pick something up again around summer time...maybe sks or something like it. Bought a G17 beginning on this year

Are you sure? Not that I doubt it; read my previous post.

Yeah they may have let you leave without it but I'm almost positive Maryland law says it has to be in there when you leave the store. It is that little Omega lock you put in unless the gun has some type of internal locking system already

Once you own one you can use it again also or just borrow someones

Yeah, I've got that Omega still in the bag.

Despite not wanting it in my gun, I have to admire the niche market thought and design of this device, and I think it only cost about $20.

  • Thanks for the help, guys...and I'm tempted to just write the Anglers guy off as being douchey and difficult, and going with another FFL place.

Thanks for this info about Anglers. I am going with some place near my office in Elkridge that is recommended by a co-worker with 100+ guns.

    EricTerp

  • Doesn't Anglers also have a window that you can drive up to to buy beer, or is that some other rinky dink place along Rt. 50 around there.

    bkmalik

  • Um, if they do, I've never bought beer there before. There is a place on Kent Island (ABC Shop) off of Rt. 50 where you can drive up and buy beer. Is that it?

    EricTerp

  • Maybe that's the one I'm thinking of.

  • When I saw this thread had been bumped I figured it was to remind all to make their purchases before Obama is reelected

  • The .410 shells are adapted for personal defense and shoot 3 copper discs and about 10 OO buck shot each for close up (within 12-15 feet) or .45 for some distance or just to finish the job!

  • Now that's a versatile gun for self defense. I'd go with 3 of the .410 cartridges and step it up with the last 3 rounds. If the first 3 shots hasn't taken them out or scared them off, I'm shooting to kill with the last 3.

First two are .410 personal defense round the rest are for head shot kills while they are flopping around on the floor.

And I have several of these in case there is a mob invasion gun

The opinion of this gun on my gun forum is pretty evenly divided. Half see it as a gimmick gun that does nothing very well marketed for newbs looking to purchase versatility, and the other half see some utility in it. I'm still undecided.

It is probably a great gun for newbs and I see its versaltility as an asset. I've never owned a pistol in my life, and I was never good with one the few times I target shot them. But as I get older, the idea of having a pistol for home self defense is appealing to me as is that gun's versatility. Is it possible there is some snobbery in your gun forum?

    EliTerp

  • Oh, and WTF, I think your XDm.45 is the best looking hand gun in this thread. I like the looks of it over the Desert Eagle, Glock and the gun frode just bought.

Thanks. I shopped online for awhile, and almost bought a Sig or Glock until I stumbled upon the Springfield XD/XDm line. I love it. Polymer lower, 13 round mags, very accurate gun, and I ordered the Triijicon night sight option. The trigger is still a little sticky, I only have 200 rounds through it, I expect it to smooth out nicely.

I don't think that's the case, I just think that the average poster owns at least 8 guns and thousands of ammo rounds, and there's always a better tool for them. If you need the shotgun, grab the shotgun, if you need the 04, grab the 04.... you get the picture.

To me, that Judge makes great sense for someone buying their first gun for self-protection, it makes no sense whatsoever for the guy that already owns 2 shotguns, 3 handguns, a hunting rifle, an AK and a built AR.

That's really what I meant. Guys who own multiple guns can be very picky. I'm the same way with shotguns because I'm left handed. I want the safety either to be on the trigger guard on the left side or on the top, and I want the shells to eject either out the left side or the bottom of the gun.

What I like about your gun is that it appears very balanced and substantial looking. It looks like it would fit the hand well.

oh yeah came with 3 different size backstraps. Look it up Eli, this might be the handgun for you. aval in 9, 40 and 45 subcompact, compact and full size.

  • The Judge is a decent idea and has a place IMO. I know this older guy who carries it with him so he can pull it out in front of his friends and shoot birds. Not knowing what it is they're always like "holy shit you just shot a bird with a handgun"
