The Killing

  • New show debuting on AMC tonight. I'm halfway through the 2 hour premiere. It's been very good so far, catch the replay if you haven't been watching.

  • Yeah this is shaping up to be very good

  • I normally tune out most police shows, but gave this one a try due to the AMC factor. Really glad I did. I'm pretty much an AMC junkie at this point, me thinks.

what is the show? cops? boxing? drugs? aliens? kings? honey badgers?

  • I really liked the premiere. Very strong acting performances all around and it really kept me on the edge of my seat the whole 2 hours. The premise of the show seems to be more mini-series than multiple seasons, assuming it does well enough to get renewed, it'll be interesting to see where it goes since the investigation likely can't go on for years.

It's a murder mystery. Female cop is ready to retire and catches a bizarre murder with a lot of dark overtones. It has been good so far, but it looks like it will have to have a lot of twists and turns if the entire series is based on one murder.

Just watched it and I agree here. The first 2 hours were good but it does seem like a mini-series only

i dvr'ed it soley because it reminds me of murder one which i loved

not sure how many people remember it but it was a mid nineties show which was intended to run just one season and that one season revolved around a single murder case (it ended up getting a second season that was a massive failure)

  • I was enjoying the first 1:50. But the final scene at the high school soccer field where the greasy former undercover cop found about about the cage was beyond ridiculous and totally unbelievable. Not to mention more than a little creepy. I don't want to talk specifics and spoil it for those who haven't watched yet but there are 4 or 5 things that would never happen in real life coupled with amazing, "no-way" coincidences that led to a discovery of pertinent information. Along with a grown man flirting with and providing drugs to minors.

  • Minor spoilers below

I actually really liked that scene. Yeah the whole openly smoking pot and giving it to the kids was a little over the top, but I liked them establishing that that guy isn't a total fuck up, that his background in doing vice/narcotics just has him use a certain style to work people for information. He knew there was something missing from the timeline of the girl going to the dance with her friend and then disappearing, and he knew just asking students about it in interviews wasn't going to get him the answers.

  • That was one of the most intense two hours of TV I've seen in a long time. The scenes with the parents at the end of the first episode were gut-wrenching. Really, really good show.

just finished it...awesome so far....and yes it is exactly like murder one....so if you enjoy this i highly recommend netflixing that

im kinda in bwtn on the scene at the high school...it was a little over the top...but it wasnt creepy at all...he wasnt really flirting with them he was just messin with them to get 411...the part of the scene that was pretty corny was the start of it where they are looking at him from across the soccer field all smitten and giggling....then they walk over and start kickin it with him...if they had set that up by him having been to the school a dozen times and forging some sort of rapport or relationship with the students it would have worked better...but it seemed so forced there....btw regarding that scene he didnt actually have weed...it was just a cigarette

    I, too, DVR'ed it.

Completely agree with you on Murder One. The first season had Daniel Benzali as the attorney defending the accused. Great stuff. Also had the great Patricia Clarkson as his wife. Second season had Anthony La Paglia as the attorney (different character as Benzali's).....not nearly as good.

  • Enjoying this so far. Caught up with the first two hours Saturday night and watched the new hour last night. A few minor things that are annoying me, but I'm mainly enjoying it. Agreed with neal about the end of the 2nd hour. I really liked that scene.

The thing I didn't like about that scene were that apparently if you are an adult man and want to "party" with high school girls all you have to do is stand by the soccer field and fire up a doobie. Yeah right. Then it just so happens that these girls not only want to party, but they also just happen to have the unknown lead you are looking for and suggest on their own that you go party there.

All he had to do was stand outside and light a joint and the high school girls come running with information to break open the case. And they also want to party with you. I like the show so far but that scene was really, really weak.

  • I think you overestimate how hard it is to pick up HS girls.

The Danish show that it is based upon had a second season (with a different murder) and is supposed to have a 3rd in 2012.
