Suque tell me where to stay in LA

  • I have to go out there for business soon but am going to stretch the trip out into a short vacation. Meeting is Newport Beach but that's just for a few hours so I'm not tied down there.

Where's a fun place to stay?

what do you feel like? some cheap place by everything so you can save money? a quality place to go all out and pamper yourself? do you want to be in the city, by the beach?

LA is awesome. people crap on it, i'm a huge fan.

I'm going for quality. Well quality talent to be more specific. Beach sounds good, but a nice pool will do.

  • Based on your posts in gay marriage threads, I'd suggest you start your search in West Hollywood.

    tecmoHOOperbowl

  • The west-side is the cleanest and most beach friendly if that's the type of vacation your'e looking for. Santa Monica is best if you also want to jet into Hollywood some night or see any of that stuff. Otherwise, look to stay in the South Bay cities like Redondo or Hermosa Beach.

If you want to be in the thick of nightlife, stay in Hollywood or even West Hollywood. If you get more specific, I'd be happy to make more recommendations.

This city is awesome. Enjoy it.

Perfect write-up here. We can all throw specific names out if you're looking for it, but need a sense of what you're looking for.

Hermosa/Redondo/etc have nice pier and strips featuring bars/restaurants/clubs. Hollywood has a lot to offer (Wilshire, Sunset, etc).

    Can't wait to go back.

  • I'll be visiting LA next month with my wife and kid. Staying near UCLA.

Which is better for a 2 year old kid - Disneyland or Universal? I'd imagine it be Disneyland?

There's a standard hotel in hollywood that looks nice. A lot cheaper than the nyc version too. Thoughts?

Best place to stay in LA is outside of the City of LA. I'd even throw in Long Beach.

Come on out and get your whoopin!

ridiculous haters from Riverside need not apply.

NYCTerp05 - Standard is great. It was the hottest place to stay about 4 years ago. Not sure what changed, but it's right on the strip in the thick of party central if you're a club going type. They have a ridiculous rooftop pool with great views.

    Carlterp - Disneyland

  • sort of related - I just won an all expenses paid trip to the Breeders' Cup. so ill be making a return trip to LA in November

Who lives in Riverside? Last time I checked Santa Monica, Redondo and Hermosa aren't in LA. Those are three other cities.

I would recommend the Beverly Hilton for a hotel. It's really nice with a great pool.

  • Colfax, is Legoland or Disneyland better? I need responses for both sober and stoned please.

  • Newport is pretty nice. I prefer the beach areas, mostly Manhattan Beach. Westwood and such is nice. Their main area near the Staples Center is L.A. Live, though I find that part of town less desirable. As for the youngins, Disney is much better for them than Universal. Santa Monica and Venice Beach aren't worth the time IMHO, especially if you have kids in tow. Same with Malibu, kids won't like it.

  • Stay at the hotel Roosevelt. Super famous tons of celebs stay there it's got the most popular poolside bar in LA and its reasonably priced. Guests are able to get into the pool bar without having to wait in the long line on friday or sat nights. When I was there Carmelo Anthony hosted an after party for the espy's there. I think I paid like 169 a night via hotels.com.

How old are your kids? Legoland is much closer to SD than LA. I found LegoLand to be much better and my daughter was 7 at the time. If you've been to Disney World, you've been to Disney Land.

Legoland is freakin awesome. There aren't any real rides there, but it's an amazing fantasy land. And yeah, it's more outside SD, but still an easy day's drive from LA if you go at the right times.

I've only been to Legoland twice (both for work) and Disney once (with my nieces), so I can only report how they were when stoned. :)

Keep in mind it is really hard to find a parking space in Santa Monica. Look up Spearmint Rhino and stay near there :)

  • I'm staying at the Bay Shores Peninsula hotel in Newport Beach. It's right on the beach, good reviews on Trip Advisor and includes parking and breakfast. Rate is reasonable. Should be fun.

Enjoy! Just know that Orange County in no way is representative of LA. It's its own animal.

Newport is probably the best part of the OC tho IMO. Should be a nice relaxing spot.
