Suque Guide to Sandwiches (Nom nom nomination thread)

  • Major Major said...

The Pambazo sandwich at Fiesta Mexicana in Rosedale, Maryland is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Chorizo, small potato chunks, lettuce, queso fresco, on a bun dipped in red pepper sauce. Just a fantastic sandwich.

Never heard of that before but it sounds good as a MF.

Some nominations that fall into the others category:

Fish Sandwich - Paia Fish Market in Paia, HI http://www.paiafishmarket.com/

Pork Bun - Ippudo in New York, NY http://www.ippudony.com/

Lamb Sandwich - 1905 in Washington, DC http://www.1905dc.com/

Meatloaf Sandwich - Fatted Calf in San Francisco, CA http://fattedcalf.com/retail.html

Chicken Sandwich - Chacacero in Boston, MA http://www.chacarero.com/

Italian Beef Sandwich - Portillo's in Chicago, IL http://www.portillos.com

Smoked Fish - Barney Greengrass in New York, NY http://www.barneygreengrass.com/

Braciole Sandwich - Rubirosa in New York, NY http://rubirosanyc.com/

I used to have to travel about 150 days a year for almost seven years so I have eaten in enough restaurants all over the country to last 50 lifetimes. Going through the notes I kept of tips and to remind myself where to go back and to avoid.

  • The fact that it's taken until now to mention the Chivito, NOT the Cuban, at Fast Gourmet makes this a fucking failure of a sandwich thread.

Santucci's makes a great Italian, but to this day I'm not sure if I give it more credit than I should because I grew up on it. I've been eating there forever.

Litteri's off Florida Avenue makes a killer Italian as well.

  • It's a chain, but Houston's has the best French dip I've ever had.

  • Best meatball sub I've had is from Trinacria in Baltimore, near Lexington Market.

Best crab cake is going to be heavily debated but I'll throw G&M in Linthicum into the discussion. They're big, not much filler and not that expensive.

I know this isn't the place to start adding sandwiches off the list, but next time anyone is down in Charlottesville, go to Littlejohn's (it's on the Corner). They make amazing sandwiches and they're open 24/7. Personal favorite: Wild Turkey (turkey, muenster, bacon, tomato, herb mayo).

  • In the tournament thread, NJT mentioned a rib sandwich in Philly. I just had it for lunch and it is unbelievable. So basic, yet perfect. Pulled Rib Meat on a bun, with a side of sauce. Definitely would deserve a spot in this if it were local.

I have some DC/Balt choices I can submit but most of mine are from all over. If we are adding ones not on the list still let me submit The Hot Brown. Had one at The Brown Hotel in Louisville after drinking bourbon all day a few years ago. Incredible.

  • I always thought the taylor's in bethesda was too nice to effectively give you a solid sandwich for a reasonable price. it's completely designed for the urban hipster or the suburban housewife like my wife and her friends, who do things in bethesda and then have a quick lunch. sounds like taylor may be that way in each of their stores.

Bon Fresco in Columbia is very good. Try the london broil, chicken breast or prosciutto.

Very good? Or best? Because for the purposes of my document I want nothing but the best.
