I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but DDL's next movie is said to be "Silence" directed by Scorcese. The rumor is that Scorcese had to fight to make this film as studios plead with him to gangster movie after gangster movie.
It begins shooting next month.

Interestingly, Speilberg's first attempt at fucking this up was when he offered the role of Lincoln to Liam Neeson, who turned it down, per Neeson's wikipedia page. While I think Neeson may have looked the part and is certainly tall enough to play Lincoln, Lewis' voice and speech will be far better than Neeson's would have been.

I don't think he outright turned it down. If I remember right this had been in the works for a long time and schedule conflicts just caught up with it. Neeson had read something like 22 books on Lincoln in preparation.
Daniel-Day Lewis should be great though, and frankly, I like not having to think of him as Schindler the whole time I watch this.

That sounds right. I think original talk of a film w/ Spielberg happened right when Team of Rivals came out in 2005. I could be wrong but my original understanding was that as the project got pushed back further and further (I guess about 5 years in terms of what would appear on film) I think that age and other commitments prompted his withdrawal.
Honestly, didn't know much about DDL until looking him up after getting the part. I knew he major roles but he's apparently, very private and you don't hear a lot about him. But after rewatching some of his other stuff and seeing his range I'm pretty happy with this. Just hoping it can stand up to absurd expectations.

I get excited anytime I see either of the two DDL threads bumped. Just watched 'in the name of the father' again last Sunday. DDL is undoubtedly the best ever. If I found out he was cast as the lead in the "mike Tyson story" I'd be 100% confident he'd pull it off.
