I was a Curl swimmer and remember the girl in the Washington Post article. She was a terrific swimmer, some of her records held for 28 years. Don't have anything else to share though. Many people I have been talking with today are not shocked, I guess I am in the minority.

I only had a brief foray into any real winter swimming, but my sister was RMSC. Couple of her friends were at Curl but this was 10 years after these incidents (not sure incident is the right word, makes it sound isolated). I had heard rumors that Rick was creepy even then, but not sure I really processed it.

This news is absolutely shocking. I would have given 50:1 that it was boys.
My brother was a Curl coach. Ill pass on any stories if he has them.

Most of my family did FAST, and before that RMSC... but I saw this story in the Post this morning. Sad.

USA Swimming has initiated a disciplinary proceeding against prominent local swimming coach for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with a teen swimmer and then paying her and her parents to keep quiet about it.

Yeah. I always heard it, but it was always a different story. Sort of how every HS gym teacher is a pedo. I just always believed the "Curl likes little boys" story.

Curl alumni here. This has been rumored around swim circles for a long time and the swimmer in question has been known too. I don't think any of us knew the severity of what actually happened, the age difference and the money paid to keep things quiet. I was at a different site but have met and interacted with Rick at meets plenty of times. Just terrible allegations and news because I really liked him.
