I've never heard of the scam in the op happening, but having rigged date raffles is a pretty common practice. You'd have to pretty dumb to fall for that so I don't have much sympathy for anyone wasting money on that. Honestly it seems like the girls get screwed over just as much as the customers from the stories I've heard, but I guess that's what they signed up for.

What is the point of that? If the prize is a date with someone hot and famous I could see entering because then you also have a good story about how you hung out with Mila Kunis, get to hear celeb stories, etc. But if it's just some model, what are you getting out of it? The knowledge that strangers might be impressed to see you out with a hot woman?

It hasn't happened to me, but I know some people who got scammed and/or extorted online. There was one person who showed to have sex with a woman and he left without his wallet and clothes.
