Talk about government excesses. WTF is this army of Napolitano's preparing for anyway. And why has the Social Security Administration bought loads of dum dum bullets.

Do these agency heads expect to arm and field armies of soldiers, and for what purpose...

More arguments for smaller government: fewer departments, fewer private armies to "defend" those departments (have they considered just doing a better job so they piss off fewer people?)

That's not what a lot of you were saying 3 weeks ago.* shrug

Don't worry, it only affects me and about 25 or so other small business owners.

The danger in paraphrasing is that you get someone's point wrong.

I'm pretty sure I've never criticized a small business owner - you need to look to Democrats for that kind of thing. And my criticism of government workers (in the MoCo case) was directed toward workers who are lazy, unexposed to the normal disciplinary actions/removal that most private industry workers face, and who receive salary increases or bonuses that add to the burden of taxpayers, regardless of showing any actual merit.

  • You definitely said something to the effect of "fuck all government employees" because it pissed me off and I wrote a pissed off response that I deleted. It was within the MoCo employee raise discussion but your statement was about the overall group. Hence you said "all" not "all lazy"

And much like the bad teacher debate, the number of useless government employees is vastly exaggerated because it's easier for people to blame a small problem like that while ignoring the big one (namely that neither political party really has the stones to enact substantial reforms to medicare, social security, etc., because it is incredibly unpopular and will cost them votes and elections).

It's easier to be pissed at the people making 35-40K a year for "stealing" a government paycheck.

And finally, I've worked in a few private industry sectors. Lazy useless people fall through the cracks all the time there too. Especially in larger corporations, which have the same inefficiencies that any other large organization has.

People coming from my POV view not only lazy, ineffective workers as useless, but also those performing duties not called for in the Constitution. Therefore those working in the Dept of Education, whether hard working or not, are also useless, for example

As long as the federal govt remains as bloated as it is, I don't particularly care if those useless workers are offended by my opinions or not.

I believe the difference to SATerp would be that those lazy private sector workers are also far more likely to be fired, and not being paid with tax payer money. A key distinction I would think.

Some people have, IMO, a misguided view of how the private sector works. At least the large scale private sector.

And taxpayer money is spent all over the private sector. I believe something like 70% of Lockheed's business is government contracts in some form or another. I'm willing to bet a dollar there are hundreds of unproductive people working there, they have about 125,000 employees. It's impossible (and ridiculous) to assume their workforce is 100% efficient.

  • Not sure if this is the right thread, but my company received healthcare renewal forms today. 30% increase from last year. Our premiums have increased nearly 100% since Obama has been POTUS. This will cost me 40K this year. Not sure how we are going to split it with our employees, but my people will take home less money now.

I still can't believe people actually believed this dumbass law would lower costs.

I'll stipulate that private industry has slackers, although fewer and with shorter careers. But those companies are not taking my money at the point of a gun to subsidize the slackers and incompetent.

If you don't like paying taxes move.

Unless you don't ever drive on roads, or use police for protection, or use any other government funded services. Then you can bitch about it.

People bitching about the government "stealing" your money via taxes are as bad as fucking R&W in the download/soda/porn thread. Maybe worse, because I'm 97% sure he's fucking around.

Don't forget about the 1.4 billion spent on Obama's in 2011 during the greatest recession since the great depression.

    http://thetruthwins.com/archives/us-taxpayers-spent-1-4-billion-on-the-obamas-in-2012-british-taxpayers-only-spent-57-8-million-on-the-entire-royal-family

When people do say stealing from future generations that is completely true, think about it, this debt isn't going to pay itself, taxpayers are eventually going to have to pay for it, I still have around another 30 years left in the workforce so I'll definitely be paying for it. What's Obama at now, around 6 trillion, over a 4 year period, it's going to take a very long time to pay back just that amount, I'll probably be paying just that piece alone back until retirement.

  • everyone has a right to complain and whine.

I want to say at least 90% of my friends and family experienced times in their careers when businesses they owned or worked for incurred tough times. Lower revenues equals less pay and in some cases I've had friends lose their jobs altogether due to layoffs. Working for any entity doesn't entitle you to be shielded from the stress of when things go bad. The federal government has been operating in a deficit for a decade, nobody could think that would last. Sure it sucks to lose pay and feel free to bitch and moan but that's life and nearly everyone in this country has had to deal with the same issues the last 5 years.
