SBARRO

Two businesses I could never figure how they are successful are Sbarro and Panda Express. That's because no matter where you are in this country, if you have access to either Sbarro and Panda Express, you have access to better Italian and Chinese food at some locally owned joint.

I've been to a lot of bumfuck locations across the United States for basketball and let me tell you that assuming the local pizza in said locations is automatically better than at Sbarro is not even close to being true. Same with Chinese food.

  • Does Sbarro exist outside of malls or rest areas? It seems odd to even compare it to the dominos, Papa Johns, etc just because of availability.

I had a slice when I was in school and hungover waiting for the Amtrak at Union Station back to NYC. It was servicable in a pinch but the fact that we have a thread claiming it is great is a low point of the suque.

It still blows my mind everytime I am near MSG and see the Sbarro there. How the hell do they get enough business to pay for a location like that? How can tourists be that dumb to eat there when in NYC?

This thread is basically how I feel, except substitute "Sbarro" with "Long John Silvers." What the fuck is wrong with some people? It's #1 on my list. How do you think I got this way?!?!

Long John Silvers is the greatest place on Earth. I see them so infrequently now that if I see one, anywhere, I stop. It's amazing. It'll cost me 5 years off the end of my life, but I don't care.

  • yeah I don't eat pizza in Greenville, SC.

Pizza is an intricate food where the ingredients have to be very fresh for it to be good. It's not going to work if mass produced or frozen. You're likely to survive eating a pizza at Sbarro's but I wouldn't call it good or very passable food.

In my book, if you're in a location that is just desolate for food options I always go with a burger and fries. It's hard to mess that up.

Pretty much the same. And their parmesan cheese gives people cancer, so that's a plus for population control.

just wait until they find a cure for parmesean cheese....youll see

You are misreading or being willfully ignorant. It's being discussed in the context of fast food options--no one is saying it's great.

can't you say that about any fast food?

It is only in malls/ mall type places. I remember reading when the economy sucked that sbarro and au bo pan or what ever that place is called were struggling tremendously cuz fewer people were going to malls.

Also, au bo pan sucks. I never understood why people went there. My mom and sisters used to always go there, i went across the way to sbarros everytime. Their chef is salad is the one redeeming item and that orangeade they sell is funky.

  • Absolutely terrible. Any frozen pizza is 10x better than Sbarro. Even the cheap Red Baron kind.

  • So no joke people actually do eat the pizza at Sbarro? that is bonkers.

I got some waterfront property in Pennsylvania to sell you guys.

  • When I was a teenager, I worked in a mom-and-pop Italian place. Trust me on this: Making a great pizza is very easy if you do the dough right (fresh-not-frozen, good flour, right mix, etc). Pretty much everything after that is easy. A good local joint anywhere with a good rep is doing that. I doubt Sbarro is.

upon further review, i am probably not the best food critic. i had a turkey and swiss sandwich from 7-11 for dinner last night. riskiest thing i've ever eaten was a tuna salad sandwich at port authority in nyc waiting for a bus.

is your property on a lake or stream?

    btuck1

  • ok, all pizza parlors are fast food. You walk up to the counter and order a couple of slices, it's the same routine as Sbarro's.

Understandably, if you are in some location that doesn't have great food options it might be the best possible pizza choice. But really how important is to you to eat pizza? Just grab something that is a lot better -- burger joints, chipotle, etc. I can exhaust a lot of options before I came around to Sbarros. Do you people spend two weeks at a mall where going to outside food is not an option.

I wouldn't even call it a fast food option unless you spend way more time on I-95 or in malls than the average person. You can't compare it to other fast food places because it doesn't have nearly the convenience of any of those other places since it doesn't offer delivery like the other chain pizza joints and it isn't within a few miles no matter where you are like the McD's, Wendy's, etc.

I've literallly had sbarro one time. It was that or mcdonald's at an airport. It's better than mcdonald's.

thank you. I was debating whether or not to respond to that. A friend of mine just bought a million dollar condo on the Schuylkill or whatever it's called in philly.

Sbarro is straight terrible. I agree with everything g$ has stated on this thread and authorize him to speak for me from here on out regarding this subject.

That gyro place like 2 doors down is pretty good. Plus, you should know about the Penn Station pizza and beer joints by now.

  • Also this reminds me of a LONG time ago when I asked an Israeli girl on ICQ if they just didn't have pepperoni or sausage at her local sbarro. I was one dumb kid.
