Revolutionary War II?

  • I really don't know why I was trying to make some mystery of it before, it was sigman and, shocker, bigturtle.

I have learned that at least three of our posters feel that there is a pretty good chance that the government will have to put down a full scale revolution some time in the next 30 years, one going as far as to say it is 85% likely.

Now you're a complete liar, I didn't say that and you need to get your facts straight.

I challenge you to find where I said that "there is a pretty good chance that the government will have to put down a full scale revolution some time in the next 30 years" or that it is xx% likely, in that thread.

    I don't either.

My only quibble is that I said I think they'll have to put down a revolt or rebellion. I did not say a full scale revolution. Some serious ish would have to happen for a full scale deal. Outright complete economic collapse for example...

Consider that in such a collapse transportation might slow if not stop. How does food get to the cities then? I could see things somehow managing to go to hell then - certain locations more likely than others. After all, our people sometimes do have a tradition of gouging people in need - and the government also has a tradition of price-fixing under those circumstances (which I have supported). What happens if that doesn't work?

I won't hijack this thread because I'm curious to see what happens, but I do see this country edging in directions that makes a totalitarian government (or at least an attempt at one) more likely. Thus this thread.

Edited to add: Consider Katrina as potential - people got desperate (with damn good reason) and the guns came out. I question their targeting hospitals and NODs but then I've never been in such desperate straits. And I don't think many of us have.

  • In 1984 the government controlled the populace through fear and deception. I don't see that happening. In Brave New World the government controlled the populace by giving them everything they wanted and eliminating choices. I think that's more likely, which means there won't be a revolution because we'll all be too drugged and sexed up to think about liberty.

I probably wouldn't care in the brave new world situation. I mean, assuming there's still fantasy football and stuff.

    1) 0%

    2) I would become leader of a roving rape squad.

Are there stationary rape squads? I only ask becauuse I'm lazy and it would be more conducive to my lifestyle.

This is why rape jokes can be funny.

  • Aren't we all Maryland fans and, as such, already part of a roving rape squad? If not, joining a roving rape squad is item 1a.

I would disagree on the deception part because neither of the last two administrations have come close to telling the truth about the economy - which is that instability is the new normal.

In star trek the next generation it was a video game that stimulated the pleasure centers

The aliens then took over as the crew was oblivious to their surroundings

  • I'm not saying I'm an expert, but I have seen Red Dawn before, so this can't be that hard.

If it wouldn't be for all of the death and interruption of sports seasons I'd say maybe we could use a re-do on some things. Like subsidies for a certain big commodity that we just can't shake.

  • There cannot be a full scale revolution unless the military turns on the government. Which is pretty much impossible.
