if u think the other thing being reported and said by news outlets are verbatim from the newsletters then you are very naive.

Actually, they almost always DO contain verbatim quotes from the newsletters ...

Lol that is hardly the truth. In fact I just heard Dick Morris say that, "Ron Paul supporters are unpatriotic."

It is these types of smears that Paul has fought threw to continue to gain momentum. I can find a lot examples if you want me to.

Anything Dick Morris says is surely wrong.

And to be sure given the information above, Morris was not taking anything Paul or his supporters said out of context. The Paul supporters claiming using his words against him reminds me of Gingrich early in this campaign when he said the video tapes of him calling the Ryan plan right wing social engineering, were lies.

I swear you Ron Paul fanboys love a Ron Paul circle-jerk more than you actually care about convincing people who don't already drink the kool-aid to vote for him. Andrew Sullivan's endorsement may not have been a huge deal on "the biggest ron paul forum," whatever that is, but plenty of mainstream media sites and blogosphere picked up on it. It was arguably the biggest endorsement Paul had gotten from a member of the media. For all the bitching you guys do about how the media ignores Ron Paul, you'd think you'd be aware of someone like Andrew Sullivan endorsing him.

I think Kunal made the key point here out of this entire Ron Paul digression (and I call it a digression since Paul has no shot at the actual candidacy) - there is a small but vocal minority that is willing to go to war for Paul, who will deflect every possible criticism of the guy. However, not a single thing has been done to convince the rest of the Republican primary voters (let alone the general electorate) that he would be the best candidate or President. Even if he wins Iowa, he's going to do it with less than 30% of the vote, and that's with throwing everything he can into the state.

Paul supporter's campaign slogan might as well be "Everybody else can go fuck themselves" - not exactly the way you build a 50%+1 coalition, nor is it the way to win an election.

Um, did you just post a story from June 2011?

    Gingrich presidential campaign implodes
Posted by Chris Cillizza and Karen Tumulty at 04:30 PM ET, 06/09/2011

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich’s 2012 presidential campaign suffered a mass staff exodus on Thursday. REUTERS/Jason ReedFormer House speaker Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign imploded Thursday afternoon with his entire senior staff resigning en masse, according to multiple sources familiar with the moves.

“When the campaign and the candidate disagree on the path, they’ve got to part ways,” said Rick Tyler, a longtime Gingrich spokesman who was among those who left the campaign.

Tyler as well as Rob Johnson, Gingrich’s campaign manager, Dave Carney and Katon Dawson, senior strategists to the effort, media consultant Sam Dawson, Iowa strategist Craig Schoenfeld, South Carolina operative Walter Whetsell and Georgia-based adviser Scott Rials have all stepped aside. Much of Gingrich’s early state operation was also headed for the exits, according to a one senior campaign source.

And Mitt is a titan ?

Military and Ex-Military types prefer Paul in overwhelming numbers, but what do they know ?

    Great quotes:

"In Gingrich, we have the perfect combination of a blowhard who wants to play with real weapons, a chicken hawk and a politician who wears a rental sign to cover the empty space where principles should be."

"Romney claimed, in November, that President Obama’s decision to bring home all American troops from Iraq was premature and represented “an astonishing failure.” True to his trademark elasticity, Romney has now changed his mind and is fine with bringing the troops home. Perhaps he’s been reading the polls that show that nearly two-thirds of all Americans think the Iraq war was not worth the loss of lives and treasury."

  • Speaking of overwhelming numbers:

    - According to that link, total number of Ron Paul military donations this year = $113,739.
    - According to a Google search, total number of results for "Ron Paul military donations" = 2,100,000.

"Some analysts questioned assertions that Paul had in fact received the majority of military donations, prompting Politifact.com to conduct its own research. The website reported:

We turned to the presidential candidates’ latest campaign finance filings compiled by the Federal Election Commission, which breaks out donations by donors’ employers…From April through June, Paul fielded more than $25,000 from individuals who listed their employer as a branch of the military.

Combined, six other Republican presidential candidates listed donations from members of the military totaling about $9,000. Our most-to-least breakdown: Herman Cain, $2,850; Mitt Romney, $2,750; Michele Bachmann, $2,250; Newt Gingrich, $500; and Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum, $250 each.

On the Democratic side, Obama’s campaign received more than $16,000 in donations from members of the military."

If you've been following my adventures here, I'm not much impressed with any of the Republican candidates - but those two are particularly unimpressive. And in regard to the "military and ex-military types" that you cite, apparently, "not much."

Agreed on that. Paul hangs around because the field is the worst ever. No chance he can pass much of his program through Congress and he is certainly not the type to go off and start an unnecessary war to prove his manhood.

It would be interesting to see him have the Fed audited and find out the real waste in government programs such as the energy loans and DOD gold plated weapons.

My point was that: 1) recent history has never seen any national campaign try to get as much mileage out of such relatively minor donations, and 2) for all the talk of OMG NO ONE IS REPORTING ON RON PAUL'S GREATNESS, there are like 20 internet results re: military donations to Paul for every dollar actually given by the military to Paul this year. I've literally never met one Ron Paul supporter who hasn't used the 'military loves Ron Paul and donates to him a ton' argument.

    Major Major

  • So much for the debate on the issues. We are back to swift boats, "Where's the Beef", Willy Horton et al. Got to love Republican politics. Always attack the man, never address the issues.

Thank goodness we have financial geniuses running US politics.

"The Times reports that the median net worth of a member of Congress climbed 15 percent from 2004 to 2010, to $913,000; meanwhile, the median net worth for all Americans dropped 8 percent over that same period, to roughly $100,000. The lawmakers’ gains are even more noteworthy because over that same period the net worth of the richest 10 percent of Americans remained essentially flat, based on inflation-adjusted figures. "

"The Post, meanwhile, takes a longer view. The paper found that the median net worth of a member of the House has more than doubled (from $280,000 to $725,000, excluding home equity) between 1984 and 2009. The wealth of an average American family, meanwhile, has declined ever so slightly during the same period."

Who actually think this guy could get elected ?

I think that RE winning the ACC and going 13-1 and that all of the top locals left uncommited committing to MD in football is 20 times more likely than Paul winning the nomination or even SC.

  • To say he is closely associated with that person is laughable.

Obama had revernd Wright. The only difference between the two is Paul has been denying involvement for the last decade. Also the things said in those newsletters go against everything Paul stands for.
