Republican POTUS Candidate Thread

The Rand Corporation is involved somehow. And big corn

LOL, it couldn't be any more obvious, Neal.

Big Corn is clearly The Kingpin. All-powerful, fat but brutal, controlling swathes of territory through sheer terror and political might. Crushing everyone who dares to challenge his preeminence.

There hasn't been a comic book analogy that obvious since Randy Edsall being the Jubilee of coaches.

    Wow, you forgot Hilldawg. Shame.

Old Hillary was Dark Phoenix--insane but still powerful. You had to try and control her because it seemed like you could never beat her. She would lash out and take down anyone around her. New Hillary is just regular Phoenix--kind of a dick every now and again, but mostly an asset to your team.

  • In U.S., Fear of Big Government at Near-Record Level

Americans' concerns about the threat of big government continue to dwarf those about big business and big labor, and by an even larger margin now than in March 2009. The 64% of Americans who say big government will be the biggest threat to the country is just one percentage point shy of the record high, while the 26% who say big business is down from the 32% recorded during the recession. Relatively few name big labor as the greatest threat.

  • Another killer Paul ad. Whoever wins the republican nomination should hire Paul's ad team

  • The man behind the Ron Paul ads - The Washington Post

Jon Downs, a D.C.-based political ad man, has created a series of spots for Ron Paul, which appear to have boosted the candidate with voters and drawn media attention to the campaign.

  • That ad team is fantastic. Just scathing.

  • And that's Ron Paul doing that to Newt. I think those who favor Newt as the nominee are vastly underestimating how much Democratic attack ads will kill Newt. (And people can hate Obama, but for all his faults, he is one of the better campaigners in recent history. That whole HOPE and CHANGE campaign was political genius. It's not like Obama doesn't have some very good people working for him as well.)

I don't think anyone, even some of the more scathing Obama reviews, have ever questioned his campaign ability.

Though I thought hope and change was a fairly obvious message to deliver post-Bush. Maybe that's just hindsight speaking.

It wasn't the genius of the message, but the genius in implementing the message. Turning a one term senator into the winner in places like Indiana, while making a former war hero known for independent thinking into a partisan crotchety old man, unstable and unable to lead. All without tarnishing Obama's positive image. Just imagine what they could do to Newt, and ponder what Newt has been doing in the last 13 years while out of politics...not sure that's a closed book.

    PPP Poll
    http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2011/12/paul-closes-in-on-gingrich.html

"There has been some major movement in the Republican Presidential race in Iowa over the last week, with what was a 9 point lead for Newt Gingrich now all the way down to a single point. Gingrich is at 22% to 21% for Paul with Mitt Romney at 16%, Michele Bachmann at 11%, Rick Perry at 9%, Rick Santorum at 8%, Jon Huntsman at 5%, and Gary Johnson at 1%."

  • The top spot in the anti-Romney contingent really IS like the village bicycle or your mom.

  • Amongst voters who view issues as more important than electability:

    28% Paul
    17% Gingrich
    14% Bachmann
    10% Romney

  • Paul has a ton of support from college students, especially in Iowa. He gets huge crowds at college campuses. But all of those kids are going to have to go out and support him in their home districts for him to actually have a chance.

    neal990

  • "Finally we threw in a Tim Tebow favorability question for part of the field period. He comes out at a net +35 (48/13), making him more popular than any of the actual candidates. Maybe in 2024..."

"The latest Rasmussen Reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters shows Romney with 33% of the vote, followed by Gingrich at 22%. Paul now picks up 18% support, his best showing in the Granite State so far. Former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman comes in fourth with 10% of the vote, with no other candidate reaching double digits."

  • Imagine if Paul wins Iowa, he then has a real shot at winning New Hampshire . If we wins both states, hell breaks loose.

If that were to happen, Gingrich and Romney probably crater and someone like Huntsman may get the nomination.

    Brokered convention plz.

Yes! (only because it would be awesome to see)

In reality, a brokered convention might end up spitting out a Jeb Bush or Mitch Daniels or Chris Christie and toss the other bums aside. And that would be horrible for us at that point in time.

But if one of the original candidates comes out of a brokered convention, they're coming out weak. Plus, the Obama Dems know how to put on a show, and they go second this time, and that on-message show on Dem unity amid the Pub chaos will make them look even better.

  • LOL. After a majority of the candidates bow out of Trump's debate, Trump himself backs out claiming that people are afraid that he will still run for President...and he still might!
