P90X2

Yeah. For me, Plyocide is less-challenging than Plyo X, which is less challenging than many of the Insanity workouts.

I've decided to keep 7 of the P90X2 workouts in my rotation. That's more than I expected at first. The ones I rejected are because there's too much (for me) emphasis on balance and/or needless risk balancing and landing on med balls and/or too much chatter and down time.

My two favorites are the PAP workouts -- not because I understand (or really care about) the science, but because they're strong workouts that are easy to follow...

Which 7 did you keep? I like the PAP workouts, although, I don't feel comfortable jumping from the lunge position; I feel like that's a knee injury waiting to happen. I will probably find more as I go through them again. I hate the fact that he took a really good Shoulder/Tri/Bi workout and muddled it w/ an emphasis on balance. With so many workouts focusing on balance, he should have left out the balance aspect from some of the resistance workout.

Drea Weber is in one of the P90X2s, but that's the only common member I noticed.

One of them has Tony's sister...

i was mainly asking to see if the dentist chick from p90x legs would be back

LAZY, she's not back (the dentist chick). I have to admit I've done a few Google searches for her over the years...

UMDTERPS02, it turns out that I'm still doing 8 of these, not 7: X2CORE, BALANCE AND POWER, PAP UPPER, PAP LOWER, AP RIPPER X2, PLYOCIDE, BASE AND BACK AND YOGA X2. I'm not that crazy about the first two on this list but I figured I'd give them a chance.

I agree completely with what you said about the shoulder/tri/bi workout, and I think it also applies to the old Shoulders and Arms workout.

I'm trying to be open-minded, though, and I'm getting used to X2CORE and BALANCE AND POWER...

  • X2 core - very tough near the end.

Plyocide - same - I was wobbling a bunch. Had to do a lot of punishment push-ups.

Odd that tomorrow is a day off already - I think i'm going to do some cardio regardless.

Total Body was hard - especially the medicine ball balance push ups.

Yoga - while shorter - was still nice and intense.

I'm doing modified P90X with my trainer and for the first two weeks I was sore as shit. Starting to feel better now, and sweat like Marion Berry during the workouts.

    Creatine
    joint mobility
    Hot tub
Protein within 15 minutes of intense workout
    Stretching
    Foam roller
    Tennis ball
    Theracane

Doing mostly olympic lifts = little eccentric component = little soreness.

That, a good warm-up helps and the foam roller rocks. Lacrosse ball (or two taped together) if you are a bit of a masochist.

  • finally into Phase 3 - just finished PAP Lower yesterday and PAP Upper today.

wow! that's all I can say. those 2 workouts are rough.

For Phase 1 - I did 3 weeks on, then the off week
For Phase 2 - I did 4 weeks on, then the off week
For Phase 3 - I plan on 4 weeks on, then the off week

So a little longer than 90 days by the end of it.

I used extra weights regularly for plyo X (and plyocide) workouts, but using the extra weight of the vest for the pushups, and pullups would be awesome too.

I don't like P90X2, but, the PAP workouts are awesome and its part of my routine. I went back to P90X and rotate it w/ Insanity and other workouts at the gym.

    What's your opinion on 1 vs. 2?

    Bettis, Detroit, blah blah blah.

Her videos are still out roaming the internets. From what I hear, its REALLY hardcore.

I've done the full p90x twice, and this is my first time through p90x2 (I suppose that is obvious).

I can't say that I have a favorite - because like posters in thread have noted - there seems to better exercises for somethings in X and then others in X2.

My goal after this is done is to take 1 month off and do the Spartacus workout that my buddy is doing here at the office.

After that month I want to combine 90x + 90x2 with a week of each month - i.e.
    Week 1 - P90x Week 1, Month 1
    Week 2 - P90x2 Week 1, Phase 1
    Week 3 - P90x Week 1, Month 2
    Week 4 - P90x2 Week 1, Phase 2
Week 5 - P90x Off Week (Core Synergistics, Yoga, and some other cardio)
    Week 6 - P90x Week 1 + 2 (Chest+Back, Plyo, Back+Biceps, Kenpo, Only Legs, Yoga)
    Week 7 - P90x2 Week 1, Phase 3
    Week 8 - P90x Week 1 + 2 (Chest-Shoulders-Tris, Plyo, Shoulders and Arms, Kenpo, Back+ Legs, Yoga)
    Week 9 - P90x2 Week 1, Phase 3
Week 10 - P90X Off Week (Core Synergistics, Yoga, and some other cardio)

    Essentially something like that.

Did you PAY for it? You can easily get Insanity, Insanity Asylum, P90X, and P90X2 for free on the interwebz...

Has anyone here tried Insanity Asylum? It looks...insane.

    Essentially something like that.

I am doing something similar, but, I substitued Insanity on cardio days. Insanity workouts are shorter (about 40 mins) and definitely more intense.

Spiffy: I have not tried Asylum and I don't really want to. Insanity is already challenging and I get an awesome cardio workout from it.

  • I've got a pretty nice rotation of workouts now. It's a blend of P90X, Insanity and P90X2.

One thing I've noticed is that an unintended (I think) consequence of the new P90X2 attitude is the abandoning of the 'muscle confusion' idea, which is one aspect of P90X that I liked a lot. If I was only doing P90X2 I'd be losing some of the variety its predecessor had.

Even with my new schedule, some of the less-mainstream workouts are far enough apart (sometimes up to ten days) that I feel a little soreness. I like the soreness, it tells me that I'm working hard, but it also tells me that I had a few body parts that got too much vacation time. For instance, I did Kenpo X two days ago and I'm still feeling it. Back when I was doing it once a week I didn't feel a thing.

I'm pretty happy with my schedule right now, but I wouldn't be if I was doing only the X2 workouts, which are core-centric, maybe too heavy on balancing, and aren't quite as challenging overall.

One good thing about X2 is that Tony is older than me again. Whew!

Is anybody out there doing X2 only?

  • I finished X2 about 10 days ago - all 90 days of it. I absolutely loved it. I am down to 164 lbs now, down to a 32" waist, and just feeling really strong and good in general. I will say this PAP's were frikken tough. Now here's the rub - I added weights to all the explosion exercises in the lower - so that added a level of difficulty. on the upper I just kept going up by small increments each week. I was dripping by the end of each workout.

I'm starting on my Hybrid program on Monday.

Personally, I love BSN Syntha 6. But, I have a few friends who use Dymatize and they rave about it. Plus its one of the cheaper ones.

I wouldn't touch Insanity with any knee issues.

Nature's Best Low Carb Isopure Protein is good.
