Old-School Wrestling Mafia CIVS WIN WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Oh and thanks to gsterp in helping me tweek some roles and what not before the game went up. Big big help. He had an idea for a Brooklyn Brawler type jobber character too that was interesting but I didn't feel like trying to work him into this game

Every role was 100% hidden like the meta mafia game. So no one knew he was the angel or that the angel would come back mafia. The mafia was surprised when the cop pointed at someone who wasnt dirty, but they weren't complaining.

I don't think it is the game you are speaking of, but you ran another game on the wake board where angel came back mafia. I was the cop, it was getting late in the game and civ's were a slight favorite to win. I investigated the angel, he came back mafia the civs lynched him and then we lost.

    can't remember the theme.

It was this game. You were the cop (forget which role), and MLK Jr was the the angel in the person of redwing.

Pretty sure it came down to a RNG at the end between mafia and independent. The independent won (Napoleon, played by ellis).

Civs were in control until that round. I forget which role you were as the cop though.

And like I said, Sleepy was the vig who tried to hit mafia early in the game but redwing protected someone and blocked the hit. He tried to make it clear to Sleepy he was the angel by essentially apologizing for blocking the hit, but Sleepy didn't pick up on it, he was lynched, you were hit at night, and the civs ended up losing. You told me after the game you investigated redwing because you trusted him and wanted to make sure you could trust him 100% the rest of the game so you wanted to confirm him as a civ.

Second, you are asserting that if the Undertaker is a normal civ, civs are still 60/40 to win. That's absurd.

According to the link I sent you, normal range of mafia is 25-33% of total players. This game had 5 of 22. With the recruiter, assume 50% to recruit = 5.5 mafia. That's at the low end of the range.

With just a cop and plain BG, that's probably close to even, maybe 55/45 civs. Add a deputy, and it swings towards the civs. Add a second BG, it swings farther towards the civs. Let the BGs protect themselves, swings farther. Let the BGs talk to themselves, another underrated but significant swing. Block another night kill with BBM, smallish swing but another easily claimed confirmed civ is significant. Civ vig is small, but adds another easily claimed confirmed civ. Add another investigator looking for ROCKER, swings farther towards the civs.

Already accounted for recruiter and silencer has minimal real effect. Godfather is powerful, but doesn't make up for all above.

You know how we know? Everything went perfect for the godfather, he was about as clear as a godfather can get, and he still wouldn't have had a chance to win even if the recruiting had worked.

60/40 was being generous. And that's still before we half the 40 with the Undertaker role.

You're nuts. 55-45 civs with just one cop and one bodyguard, and no undertaker?

also why did you guys decide to hit parlay? (decent chance he kills a civ with his hit) I think that was the night you guys were leaning eaglez at first (and would have killed him w/no suicide).

That was the night after I was silenced too. Fox showed up BG the round before that taking a hit for Hammer, and my defense of Fox was only like 4 pages back. I was 100% sure I was getting hit at night the round parlay went, but I had protected myself night 3, so I couldn't do it again night 4 and I placed it on Hammer.

  • And for the record, every game I play here versus the Wake board makes me glad RHTBG sent me the link to this board months ago when a mafia game was starting.

  • I wanted to kill Eaglez very early and often. It continually got glossed over.

Additionally, I thought BG was the BG for the exact same reasons you listed above Eagles about how you tried to keep attention from yourself. I thought Toogs was trying to talk about what the BG should do to make us think he wasn't the BG.

BTW, Eagles, you have me down to a T, and I hate it.

That link is wrong imo, but you are missing the fact that everything went very well for the civs in this game.

I'm not missing that. I'm saying that if those breaks that went well for the civs went mafia's way instead, mafia was still screwed.

Let's rewind to when I got lynched. Assume hammer hits a civ instead of me, and let's say we get lucky and hit the BG instead of parlay. I'm still alive, we recruit an extra member and you have another civ confirmed by hammer’s investigation. Also assume SLT gets modkilled. At that point the numbers are:

    4 mafia (1 Godfather, 1 Rocker, 2 goons)

    1 indy

    1 cop
    1 deputy
1 person who can investigate for rocker
4 confirmed clear civs (QT, Leafee, Parlay, whomever hammer investigated instead of me)
    1 regular civ

    Mafia's best case:
Day 5, mislynch reg civ, kill hammer, no cop investigation (dies with hammer)
Day 6, lynch Indy(no uncleared civs left), kill dxl, no cop investigation (dies with dxl)

You’re left with 4 mafia, Civ Rocker and 4 cleared civs. Civ Rocker has the results of three investigations to work with.

Even if hammer missed me, AND we got lucky and hit the BG, you would have had to miss all four mafia three times in a row from a pool of 7 unknowns. <3% chance of that if picking randomly.

    That’s not balanced.

If it is any consolation, you are always arguably the person who I am most worried will figure me out when I'm mafia as well, so I try to advocate for killing you early often.

BTW, SLT was admin-killed in my game for doing the same thing. As he told me, he wanted to push the envelope. That was exactly what I thought he was doing here too.

At least in that game he was the angel and should have been allowed to role claim. However, that is not a defense, since your rules were clear, just more understandable.

Playing as one of the indys, I really liked it. I was trying to be extra proactive in killing people.

  • Actually, what about a legendary sports teams game? College and pro. Could be done 100% blind very easily with so many possible teams to pick from.

  • Last post, just trying to get all the brainstorming out there: not just legendary teams: Legendary sports figures where the teams were mafia (college teams mafia 1/pro teams mafia 2), and the players and sports figures the civs. With a couple of independents thrown in.

  • Did anyone do a Simpsons mafia?

And even so, that can be done a lot of ways

    BeadsBees

  • The Simpson one beak did I think had everyone with some kind of "special" role. Mine was regular civ but some kind of quirk.

That one was a lot of fun.

  • I'll mod a game next week again if needed, but if you guys want a theme, someone else will have to write it out

  • 3 weeks ago I thought I was done for the summer modding because I'm training someone to do my job when I leave at the end of summer, but she isn't starting until July 1st, so I would have time for one more if no one is going to pull the trigger for next week.

  • I've seen another popular concept called Upick on another site. Each player picks their rolename, and the mod assigns roles and alignment to fit the character name.

I.e. I could send in "Boba Fett" as my rolename and end up as an Indy

QT could send in "Donald Trump" and get to make decisions about who gets fired each night.

[Although, if I were the mod, I would screw with someone obviously angling for special roles.]

Mod doesn't publish what rolenames are in the game, so people can claim they are whoever the hell they want.

Mod can publicly publish info about role abilities:
    - There are 5 mafia, with 0-1 godfather
    - There are 1-2 indys
    - There are 1-2 cops / deputy
    - There are 0-2 bodyguards
    - There is 0-1 Doctor (angel)
    - Other capabilities may be in the game, including: silencing, recruiting, roleblocking...

Mod explains specific role details in PMs. i.e. you are trying to recruit X, but be careful, there is a role who can investigate you.
