No complaints here - IMO the android notification is one of their best features

    Wooo notifications.

This is better than what I have for my jailbroken device. They better support 3gs

Looks like I'll have a dilemma to upgrade to this or keep my 3gs jailbroken.... Decisions, decisions.

    (Ifffffffffff it supports the 3gs)

    Best of both worlds -

just wait a bit until there's an untethered jailbreak for iOS5. I know that's what I'm gonna be doing. They're usually up pretty quickly

  • I can't believe one of their 10 improvements is..... twitter integration. Ugh...

I'll wait until you tell me so.

And HMPAOF - Atleast you have twitter now...

  • haha, that's one way to look at it RU.

RE: Browsers (their current topic) I love the iPad 2 but browsing on a Xoom is better if only for the "tabs" like in Chrome in it's stock browser. Safari renders pages pretty well but the lack of tabs absolutely kills it for me.

Edit - just saw tehy added tabs - thank GOD.

  • Apple's hardware is obviously top notch, but it continues to baffle me how much slack the apple horde gives them in terms of software updates. Every single one of these updates are things that you could already do with Android (twitter integration, notifications, RSS reader, tabbed browser), and in some cases things you could do with android over a year ago.

I'm a huge iphone fanboy, but I'll totally admit android has some great features that iphone's don't. You're also not taking into account some of the really great software they have, especially the music player

  • Completely agree.. everything introduced today thus far in version 5 I have on my 18 month old Droid. They aren't doing my to sell me on upgrading to an iPhone. My iPad is going to love this update (and it better be jailbroken, I hate not having the ability to jailbreak my iPad).

They were silent on omitting Cocoa on Lion which makes me nervous. I would like to keep my Cocoa programs intact if I upgrade to Lion.

  • OTA updates is still something google is owning at. If I do a data wipe of my Droid when I update the ROM, it downloads every app, contact, calendar, etc. once I enter my google credentials.

  • Looks like a bbm style messaging service.

Never understood the appeal of that. What's the difference between that and a text. Also a read receipt is the worst thing on the planet

bbm's advantage to sms/mms is that you're using data (what carriers consider data) to message instead of text messaging data (what carriers charge more for). In addition, you get confirmation that your recipient has received it.

I like this feature a lot.

That's where Apple is getting destroyed. I love the fact that I just have to put in my Google name/pass and it syncs literally EVERYTHING I had on my phone. I'm far from an Apple fanboy so my criticisms aren't usually taken well, but this isn't the great update everyone was hoping for...

Still haven't heard anythign about "Widgets" and I'd be surprised if they popped up.

At least on the Blackberry, the user experience for BBM is a lot nicer than dealing with texts. Also, BBMs don't count against your messaging limit if you have one.

Well, I mean, that’s what it is. I doodoo and then listen to Katy Perry.

I just assume everyone has unlimited text at this point.

Also, why would you want someone to know if you've read their text? Sometimes I'll read and intentionally not respond right away

Definitely. I'm very far in the tank for Apple, own stock, and all my devices except my cell phone are Apple products. I was certainly going to upgrade to the successor to the iPhone 4 when my contract was up in September if they hit a home run with this update. But I think I'll research some more on this. I love my Droid although its starting to fall apart, AND I hate the Carrier/device manufacturer UI's they place on the Android, so it's something I'll consider.

  • They just ripped off a bunch of jailbroken app developers. I know they hired a notifications guy from the jailbroken community, but the lockinfo dude's gotta be pissed. The notifications drop down is exactly what he made years ago.

Widgets would have been nice, but you're right, not anything major outside of the notifications.

I talk about jailbreaking alot, but honestly, these events are just bonuses for me. I already get pretty much everything I want out of my jb phone, so any extra little features that I'm given are just icing on the cake

  • I think Apple made a big mistake in supporting 3GS. That makes me think either we will have a big iOS update sooner than usual or the iPhone 5 is a LONG ways away.

  • The auto syncing to the cloud is a great concept and all....except that most people are on bandwidth restricted mobile devices. I don't want my phone syncing all of my music, docs, pictures I take on it, etc without me telling it to. There HAS to be a way to turn that off, right?

If I'm reading the updates right, it seems like that's what iCloud is going to take care of.
