I just can't abide by Apple refusing to put USB ports on the iPad. Their idiotic stubbornness in sticking with proprietary formats is just soooooo frustrating.

It is most certainly a YMMV situation, but I can't tell you a time where I'm like "fuck I wish I had a USB port on this thing". I can understand frustration for not having it, however.

I saw something on macrumors a few days ago about this.

For a nub, what's the difference between 4G and LTE

and I have ATT, will they ever have LTE?

The 4G standard (still being worked out) is actually LTE advanced (aka LTE 2.0) (AT&T and Verizon) & WIMAX (Sprint).

What every cell phone provider (incorrectly) is advertising as 4G is really 3.5G which consists of LTE (plain or 1.0) (Verizon and Sprint) and HSPA+ (AT&T and T-Mobile). Its shoddy advertising. Its a modest speed bump in exchange for diminished battery life since the standard hasn't been refined.

However, the bigger dagger is that I've heard that iOS 5 may not support 3Gs

This is what's going to force me to move on from 3GS. I can't imagine why anything "5" wouldn't be a big deal, which is why I think it will be a 4GS-type deal and named as much like Devils is saying (especially since they just released the white iPhone 4).

Kinda salty this upgrade is looking like it'll whore me. I thought I was cash with the 3-5-7.

you have 11 broken iPads? why?

  • I thought the latest rumors showed $25/year for icloud. Not $25/month.

  • 4gs?? I haven't seen any rumors about any new hardware yet, where is this from? Only thing is iOS 5 is for sure but it won't go gold for months. Developers need time to update apps first.

So far they have not fragmented iOS yet. The versions keep going up, gradually making older devices obsolete. However there has never been a branched version design only for older device. Look for iOS 4 to be the final iOS version for 3GS iPhones (with maybe a few security updates when needed)

They aren't broken, iTunes is being a piece of shit. I'm creating an iPad loaner pool for the place I work for.

  • need help with the following - iPad2 specific -

    1) productivity apps - i.e. the equivalent of word, excel, ppt, and PDF viewer - what should I get?

    2) connecting to my printer which supports wireless - what app do I need for that?

    Thanks.

i havent found one yet for productivity. MS is supposed to release office for iOS at some point.

Regarding printing, there is an app that allows a shared printer connected through another machine to be accessible through AirPrint. I was able to get it work yesterday. search google, i forgot the name of the program.

Are we even sure this is going to be a 5 or is there some chance it's a 4GS type deal?

it's 100% percent going to be more of a 4GS

RaiseHigh said... No. This is jtp's doing. He's kept me around for his bizarre HOF resume.

One would hope - that's one area that iOS is dreadfully behind Android.

  • Founds this quote -

"Dont think of iCloud as the new MobileMe; think of iCloud as the new iTunes."

This is good and all, except that you can't upload music that you've purchased from other places (supposedly). This seems like the model Apple has been going towards for a while (even with the OS) and it's, quite frankly, a little scary.

completely agree on this notion. Its nice to have a centralized location, but I don't want it to be the only location since I want to still own it. My fear is that this is the model they are going to use for all devices (including Macs).

  • I'm expecting the iOS overhaul to be massive. Then again, I thought they'd do something more than allow you to change the background in the last revision, and that didn't turn out to be the case.

To be fair, last year you got folders too, plus some other things I'm forgetting.

It should be a pretty big change imo
