the next person i meet from dc will be the first

You're such a tool sometimes. There are 5 million people in the metro area. Do you think they just rotate them all out of here every 4 years? I don't even care if I'm getting trolled. Enough people believe that myth it pisses me off.

  • one of my boys down there for the flyers game tomorrow just texted me from a bar called the boundary stone...and said its playing good hip hop and both bartenders are eagle sseason ticket holders

    Actual district, not metro area.

It's pretty true. Unless you're in the ghetto but that's slowly just moving to PG County one day at a time anyway. My cousin just had a kid a couple years ago, I guess she's maybe 2 or 3ish and they just bought a big house in Cleveland Park. I don't get the appeal of raising a family in the city but different strokes for different folks. The reason there aren't a ton of people FROM DC (outside of the ghetto and the burbs) is because it isn't a blue collar town.

  • How long does one have to have lived in DC after birth to be considered FROM the District? I'm sure lots of folks of my age were born in DC, perhaps lived there for a few years, but then moved to the suburbs. I was born in DC, lived there with my parents until I was three, then lived in the relatively close-in suburbs for nearly 50 years.

Those cities are filled with a bunch of Jay Gatsby's, if that's your thing. Or maybe I've been shaped by my Howard County upbringing. Texas sounds cool. Warm weather, good looking women, cheaper.

Texas? Do you like traffic? The DC area is bad for traffic, but you don't usually have to go very far in it. If you live in Houston or Dallas and need to get somewhere outside of your immediate area for work, the cities are so spread out that you have a guaranteed hour-plus commute each way. Those places are barely above LA for traffic hell.

Unless you're talking about Austin. Austin is awesome.

My boys are sixth generation, born at Washington Hospital Center. Both their grandfathers went to Eastern, grandmother McKinley Tech and great grandmother Cardozo High School.

  • Hung out with a girl last night who recently moved to Chicago after living for a while in Cleveland Park. Sometimes, people are offered promotions at their jobs and have to move. She likes it there, mainly because people in that part of the country aren't inconsiderate insufferable pricks. Different strokes, I guess.

  • DC's actual population is around 600K so no, the actual number of DC folks is not great. I work in rockville now and I know plenty of people who call DC their home, your's truly included. I think if you're in the company of people who may be familiar with the area, then you could say I'm from Bethesda or Mclean or Silver Spring. But if you're speaking with someone who's international or from the west coast, it's reasonable to say DC (e.g. like being on vacation people don't need to know you're from wheaton MD, they want to know what part of the country you're from). Furthermore, if you work in the district or spend any time in it, then it's not unreasonable to say you're from DC. I have a good friend from Tarzana Cali who came to MD. He always said he was from LA. Anyone from LA would know that the "Valley" was a good haul from Hollywood Blvd, but why would a person from MD make a distinction?

  • YES Organic Market on Georgia Ave has a great beer/wine selection as well. Stocked up on Great Lakes Christmas Ale a few months ago.

as I posted, the number of DC residents isn't high to begin with but if you're insinuating anyone living in DC is embarrassed to be known for living in Dc, that's laughable. especially in comparison to philly.

  • i see they have 3 different Evo beers at Lion's, nice. now i'm probably not going to buy it at $11/6-pack but it's nice that they carry it. it is hard to find this side of the bay.

  • Looks pricey but all the beer places around us are. Glad to have some decent selection without going to the price gouging place at 14th and irving, especially since parking is more of a pain there.

  • true. d'vines is crazy expensive, and definitely just capitalizes on the captive consumer that lives around there.

if i'm ever over in that part of town i go to rodman's, which is great, but so far away.

    RDurr

  • the best place for liquor and wine is along Conn. Ave. Macgruders has shifted to selling more liquor than wine (still good wine selection) and their prices are better than any other place I've seen. circle liquor, aforementioned Calvert woodley, and a couple of places on Wiscy are good as well. On the weekends you can see people from DC and MD with shopping carts full of booze stocking up.

Rodman's is my #1 stop. Just an incredible selection. But then again, YES had plenty of Great Lakes while other stores were sold out in days.

I used to work across the street from Rodman's and Paul's in Friendship Heights. I used to drink a lot.

  • MoCo resident checking in...I do stop by Rodman's or Chevy Chase once a month or so for better selection and slightly cheaper beer and wine. Chevy Chase is a bit pricier, but the selection is good and their stock guy usually has a good recommendation or two.

For all of MoCo's faults, I never have to go hunting down in DC for cheaper liquor. Usually some pretty good deals to be had.

Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.
