  • I actually just picked up a six-pack from Corridor

  • I believe Nugget Nectar will be Frisco Grille's Firkin of choice one Thursday in February.

Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.

  • Stone has a new I.P.A. out (at least new to me) that they're calling Cali-Belgie or Cali-Belgique depending on the bottle. I enjoyed it. It's like a cross between their regular IPA and their collaboration Saison du Buff that they did. Its hoppy and spicy and grapefruity and delicious.

  • SIAP, but anyone had the Great Divide Yeti Imperial Stout?

I bought a 4-pack yesterday with the intention of having 2 last night, and I only had one. A little goes a long way, but I liked it a lot.

Fortunately, I now have 3 left for watching the Caps game tonight.

  • New favorite IPA - Green Flash West Coast IPA.

  • Tried Brooklyn's Sorachi Ace last night. It's a Saison style with Sorachi hops that are supposedly super special.

    I give it a "meh."

Yep. It is very good. However, I usually drink Loose Cannon instead. Almost as good and costs 1/3 less

  • A sampling of my current supply.

    Rochefort 8 is 9.2% ABV
    Rochefort 10 is 11.2% ABV
Gonzo Imperial Porter is 9.2% ABV

  • Green Flash is outstanding for the hop heads like myself who love a nice IBU beer, but not stuff off the charts like Hop Stoopid, Hopsanity, etc.

Unleash the Furby is living very well by those 4 beers. Despite the silly size, the Anchor Porter is still the standard for me of that style. The Gonzo imperial has an impressibe ABV too, if I recall.

I have been enjoying Adventinus by Schenider and Sohn, as well as the always delicious Yuengling Bock seasonal.

  • After last weekend included getting smashed at Mad Fox in Falls Church, a long Super Bowl Bar Crawl on Capital Hill and then the Game, it's now officially been a week since I've had a drink. I can't remember the last time I've gone more than a few days with a drink, typically I have a glass or two of wine or a couple of beers most nights. Its certainly a pattern I've been following for what now is heading towards 20 years.

This week has actually be easier than I thought it would be and I think I've proved my point to myself that I don't need to drink, I just like to. Not sure when the next one will come, probably the next time Mad Fox announces on Facebook they are tapping a geat sounding beer..

Terp Faith, which bars were included on the Capital Hill crawl? That area was my old bar hopping grounds a few years ago.

  • 1. Hawk-n-Dove
    2. Pour House
    3. Captal Lounge
    4. Tortilla Coast
    5. Bullfeathers
    6. Cap City
    7. Irish Times

It changes year-to-year a bit but what doesn't change is that it always starts at 4pm at the Hawk-n-Dove on Saturday/day before the Superbowl and rotates every hour to the next bar. This Super Bowl Derby has been going on for 20 years and next year it will be turning legal.

I would say about 75 people make it most years and next year I will post a reminder before the 21st crawl. Anyone is welcome..

  • Sounds cool. The Irish Times is one of my favorite watering holes of all time, Bullfeathers, Pour House, and Capital Lounge are cool too. May have to partake next year.

I just bought a 6-er of this at Corridor: Old Dominion Baltic Porter.

Smoky, classic porter flavors, heavy on the malt. I liked it, didnt love it. Maybe a little too late in the season to try such a wintery porter. Can't hold a candle to the absurdly good Flying Dog Gonzo Porter, but a decent take at the style nonetheless.

  • Cigar City out of Tampa has some fantastic brews....Humidor Series Cedar Aged IPA and Sea Bass (sour ale) are tasty. I hope they make their way up to Maryland/DC soon.

Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.

  • I need help picking a keg for a party I'm having in a few weeks. I think all I want is a 1/4. Most of my friends don't have my wild tastes, but they should all appreciate some tamer good beers. Any ideas?

I already asked Gillys in Rockville to price me on some kegs from Flying Dog, Brooklyn, and Troegs.

    montecarloterp

  • As far as Troegs I think Nugget Nectar only comes in 1/8 keg? And it's pricey.

I bought a 6 pack a few days ago. It's pretty good but at $12, one is enough for me

Oops nm..you are just talking about kegs

  • Assuming you're in Maryland.....Heavy Seas Black IPA is kind of new to me. My first go at this style. Roasted malts of a stout and hops of an IPA...I don't think it's the best style (could just be their version), but it's worth a try.

Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.

  • Will check this out. I was just reading thorugh thread. Can I still get Mad Elf from Troegs or is it just seasonal?

I haven't had it, but Stone Sublimely Self-Righteous is apparently the best of the style....may be available at a place like Corridor.

Gilly's is great for trying new beers but I would not buy a large quantity of beer there without further research because it tends to be super expensive. For example, the same six pack of Nugget Nectar irvingbabbitt says he paid $12 for costs $20 at Gillys.

Gilly's sandwiches are ridiculously good. I can't imagine buying beer there unless it was solely for convenience's sake though. Their prices are a couple bucks higher across the board than anywhere else I've seen.
