  • Picking up some Punkin Ale tonight. Went to Dogfish Head last weekend to get it on draft. It was wonderful.

  • Starr Hill's Love wheat beer is surprisingly good this year. Had it at an Oktoberfest here in Richmond this past weekend on tap.

Can't wait for Capital Ale's Oktoberfest in downtown Richmond, they're closing a city block to expand it.

  • Had a couple Longboard drafts while in OC last weekend. Pretty good, kind of Foster-like lager. If you are ever in Southern MD, Ruddy Duck Brewery in southern Calvert near Solomons makes a good Marzan.

  • I'm not usually one for fruit beers but tried a Hell or High Watermelon on a whim. I liked it The flavor blend of malt and watermelon worked nicely and the slight rind bitterness was also pleasant. I then bought a sixer and don't like that at all. I honestly think I got a bad batch which included some rotten melons. geez..life is full of disappointments...

  • Got a Redhook variety pack the other night b/c I like the ESB and LongHammer IPA. However the Autumn Ale and Blonde Ale were both quite tasty too.

  • Picked up some New Holland brews when I was in PA....hate their distribution laws by the way. Pricing is worse than MoCo, if that's possible....anyway, I had heard good things about the Mad Hatter IPA and was wholly unimpressed. Very unbalanced beer. The hops weren't enjoyable and the aftertaste had nothing. I've got a couple more of theirs - The Poet and Dragon's Milk...will report when I get to them.

Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.

Any experience w/ pale ales? The first few will probably seem too bitter to enjoy, but you will eventually acquire a taste for them. I'd recommend starting here, because the market is saturated w/ some great pale ales and IPAs. For starters, look into some Sierra Nevada before graduating to some bigger flavors. It's a great starter beer for future beer nerds.

  • Was everyones first beer drinking experience with Natty/Coors/Bud or something of the like? I started drinking on a school trip to Germany. So my first real beer experiences were sick ass German lagers, some of the tastiest beers you will ever have. Think it was pretty much impossible for me not to develop into a beer snob after that and I'm not even 21 yet.

  • I'm going to this Belgian restaurant tonight and I could use some beer suggestions:
    http://www.marktrestaurant.com/pdf/beer.pdf

    I've had the following:
    Stella
    Hoegaarden
    Leffe Blond
    Hennepin
    Duvel
    Delirium Tremins
    Ommegang
    Chimay Rouge

I doubt I'll go higher than the $10 beers, but curious if there are any good reviews for the others. Thanks.

i'm an advocate of trying out something you've never had. or at least ask for a sample at a bar/restaurant before ordering.

St. Bernardus Abt 12 is my absolute #1 beer. It's over the $10 limit, but worth every penny.

Tripel Karmeliet is fantastic for a tripel. Duchesse De Bourgogne is totally worth $12, but it's a unique experience (Flemish ale = somewhat sour). I've had most of the beers on there, but I would recommend those 2.

I kinda like Buffalo Bill's, to be honest, but I get sick of it after maybe 3/4 of a bottle.

DFH Punkin Ale is great though. It's got the body of a brown ale, with hints of pumpkin and some pumpkin pie spices. I know I've had some other good ones, but they're slipping my mind at the moment (so maybe they weren't actually that great).

Is there a better deal anywhere than Red Hook ESB? $6.99/six pack at Total Wine down here.
