Official Annapolis Is Awesome Thread

  • Getting the wife out of the house/away from the little ones for a night for her b-day. Thinking about going to Annapolis for the night. Get a good meal....walk around window shop. She's pregnant and cant drink and walk too far. Want to stay by the State house/City Dock/Naval Academy area.

    The Marriott on the water right there is booked. Anyone stayed/know anything about the Loews on West Street. Any other recommedations? (I saw close by the Loews was O'Callaghan's but Im not familiar.)

    EDIT: I'm just going to turn this into a catch-all Naptown thread. Praise this shining city on a peninsula! [paulumd]

  • I once worked for a law firm in the building next to Loew's. I would skip it...it's not exactly close to the Naval Academy or the City Dock or Main Street, and if Mrs. 92 is pregnant, she won't want to walk to the places I mentioned. With respect to the amenities, the food in the restaurant was pedestrian but, again, that has probably changed since I was there.

    Mrs. 74 and I spent a night about 20 years ago at the State House Inn. Nice place, and it's on State Circle, near everything you'd want to do in town, or places you'd want to eat. Check out their website.

  • Recommedations for places to eat in that area? Im thinking seafood. (In the past...we have just kinda wandered around and found a place. im guessing on Sat night....the better places will require reservations...or there will be a monster wait.

    If you can stand to eat fabulous steak instead of seafood, go across the bridge to Eastport.

    Lewnes is a birthday kind of place.

  • For seafood, go to O'Leary's in Eastport. Fantastic. I did have great seafood at Ruth Chris as well. Carrol's Creek is awesome as well (in Eastport right across the bridge).

    Hotels: Marriot would be the best, but the Maryland Inn would be nice as well. They are old and historic, but that's part of the appeal.

    Maryland Inn is very historic, quirky, etc. We did an anniversary night there. It was very nice. Being a guy I could give a sh*t about what room we do stuff/get dressed in. YMMV.

    Don't be tempted to eat at the Treaty of Paris if you do stay at the Maryland Inn. Pedestrian at best.

    I CANNOT wait for the back porch to open. I live less than a mile away, and it is definitely one of the best places in town.

    Is vin the wine place on west st by loews? Also I really like Osteria 177 and has anyone been to hell point seafood? Is it worth checking out?

    Hell Point closed down with a caveat. They may re-open this spring/summer depending on how the outlook for potential business looks.

    Osteria 177 has become one of the more popular restaurants in town. I ate there when it first opened and was satisified. I haven't been since, but the menu looks completely different and all of my friends love it.

    Vin 909 is in Eastport at the old Wild Orchid cafe on that curvy street. If you cross the Eastport Bridge headed towards Eastport and make the immediate right after The Rockfish, take it down towards the end and you'll see a little red building on the left. It is definitely in my top 5 restaurants in Annapolis.

  • Osteria is very good Italian, been there multiple times, Vin 909 (someone was thinking of Crush I think, this place is in eastport as someone said) isn't really a walk from Downtown but its a great spot. Very creative seasonal menu.

  • Was very disappointed with Hell Point in general, went there a couple times when they opened and against late last year. Below average.

  • All the bed and breakfast places were booked except for the flag house inn. It had one room.....but it was two single beds and two night minimum. (most of the b&b require 2 nights)

    So.....booked the Loews. Could walk in normal circumstances.....but we'll see what the wife is up for/weather.

    Made reservations for the Lewnes. Thanks for the recommendations.
