No Good Deed Goes...

  • Last Summer a guy near my hometown decided that his life was too hard to live anymore, and decided that he would lay down on the highway in the moutains at 4:00 in the morning outside of the strip club that he had gotten wasted at. My dad was driving to work and did not see him until he had already ran him over, police report said he was going 62 MPH. My dad stopped, called 911 the guy was alert but in a lot of pain. He went into shock in the helicopter on the way to the hospital . It was the second time in 23 years that I ever saw my dad cry.

But the more I thought about it, I'm glad that he did not see him. If he had, there is a chance that he could have caused my dad to crash and where this happened, at those speeds it could have cost him his life. So I guess I was not glad that the guy died, but I was glad that my dad did not see him and ran him over. Weird feeling.

One time I was just really pissed off so I walked up behind a guy and shot him in the head and then ran away. I felt a little bad about it, but you have to understand the times. I regret nothing.

Don't feel so bad, I'm sure you'll remember to piss on the next one before running away.

In your defense, those Ilinois fans WERE annoying.

i live in carroll county. hitting a deer is one my greatest fears in life. besides the fact that i don't want to risk my life or the lives of anyone in my car, and i don't want to deal with the insurance companies/repairs/etc., i just don't want to kill an animal. it's sad because you cannot really help wild animals. if it were a dog that got hit and it was still alive, you likely would have thrown it into your vehicle and rushed it to an emergency vet, but you cannot do the same for wild animals. i'm sad for the deer that is probably dying a slow, painful death in the woods right now. :(

You don't hit deer - they just run into your car. It randomly happened to me twice in the past couple years, in much more urban areas than where you are. Neither were more than a minor hassle with the insurance company, and I didn't fell bad either time, because there's literally nothing you can do. It'll probably happen to you sooner or later if you're up there long enough - nothing you can do.

Are you doing well up there?

When I was in High School, I was in my Jewish friend's car. We saw a family of deer on the side of the road. He came to a complete stop because there was no one behind him. The family of dear crossed. My friend was about to drive on when a huge deer runs into the road and hits my friends car and trips. It gets ups and gallops on to his family.

To this day we still joke around about the Palestinian deer in our neighborhood.

Growing up in the sticks with a dad and granddad who both hunted deer before I could drive, I learned/was taught that ANY TIME you see a herd of deer cross a road, the big buck will wait to make sure it is safe before following across.

Still, I laughed at the "Palestinan deer" part of that.

  • Whatever you do, do NOT rescue the deer, especially in Virginia.

Manatee... I'm not sure i get your point. Yes, animals die all the time. Does that mean we shouldn't be compassionate? Are you going to be the dickwad that posts that same thing on the next thread where someone shares that their dog died?

I was once driving a speed boat on the Intercoastal just a bit north of Palm Beach, Fl in a Manatee Zone and I disregarded the speed warnings. I decapitated one HugeManatee and one smaller manatee. Thought nothing of it.

  • I was driving up to Erie the night of January 1st this year. Heading about 75, I passed an ambulance and was in an stretch surrounded by no other traffic. While about half a mile ahead of the ambulance, a deer ran out in front of me. I swerved to the right to avoid it. Lost control of my car. Cut back left. Straight into a guardrail. Deer ran off scot-free, but my car was totaled. Ambulance pulls up, I'm uninjured, but they call the cops. Cops come, call a tow truck, my dad drives up the hour and a half to get me and take me back to Pittsburgh.

As I'm waiting in my totaled vehicle for the tow truck, the police officer comes up and taps on the window. Hands me a $170 citation for "Failure to Leave My Lane Safely." Told me without proof of a deer, he had to write the citation.

i just want to make sure we understand that a more or less long time poster admitted to possibly murdering someone in a 3rd world country with little or no remorse, in this thread. I'm not sure thats gettin enough play

It's not that he's admitting to vehicular manslaughter as much as he's insisting that's what he was supposed to do in that situation that has me rolling

I carry this with me at all times, just in case that happens. When the cop looks at you skeptically, show him a handful of this and state, "He left this behind."

You think getting out of the car in 1988 Panama would have been the smart move? The guy who got hit by the poster's car was probably trying to get them to stop in an attempt to rob and possibly kill them. I'm a pretty compassionate guy but no fucking way I'm getting out of the car.

I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?

right, people kill people all the time in hit and run accidents, I don't see why everyone is making such a big deal about it. Also that thing with the hooker was totally not my fault, it wasn't even my motel room.

I was not the operator of the vehicle. I was in the vehicle.

How would you view a similar situation by military personnel in Afghanistan or Iraq? Assume a reasonable person would view stopping as a threat to themselves and others in the vehicle.

We are not talking about more than not stopping when that was the only evasive action. All involved should have recognized this. One party gambled and lost.
