Movies that you recently watched not in the movie theatre

  • I was bored with TV tonight, so I went to my go-to horror movie of the last few years, Ghost Ship. That movie is an all time classic. While I was watching it, I thought of another 'deserted ship' movie that, in memory, was a great spook movie, Satan's Triangle, with Doug McClure and Kim Novak - do any other old timers remember that?

A USCG pilot and his winchman Haig (Doug McClure) answer an SOS call at sea and arrive at a derelict schooner called the Requoit. Haig lowers himself to the ship, where he finds three dead bodies along with one survivor, Eva (Kim Novak), cowering in the cabin. As the pilot attempts to retrieve Haig and Eva with a rescue basket, the line breaks, plunging the two into the ocean. After they swim back to the boat, the pilot informs Haig that he must return to base because his fuel is borderline. Eva and Haig spend the night on the boat, during which time she recounts the story of the storm that killed everyone else aboard. One man was hurled through a hatch; one is hanging from the ship's mast; another vanished before her eyes; and a fourth man is in an aft compartment, floating in the air. Eva attributes the deaths to supernatural causes, but Haig has a practical explanation for everything...

Anyway, it was never released on DVD, and the only copies available are apparently basically bootlegged off the old VHS. So, that's what's coming in about a week - it's a pretty good little horror movie, with a neat ending.

  • every couple contemplating marriage should watch who's afraid of virginia wolf......liz taylor, richard burton, george segal and mouse (a run of the mill blonde woman) are spectacular in their cruelty to their respective spouses

  • love and other drugs - by no means a great movie but much better than i thought it would be...pretty watchable...jake gyllenhall is a terrible actor...anne hathaway gets naked a little bit

    5/10

trust - david schimmer seems like a massive no talent douchebag to me but his directorial debut about a 14 year old girl who get lured and raped by an internet pedophile is pretty damn good....the actress who plays the young girl (btw she looks and sounds just like a young sasha grey) is outstanding....she has a great future ahead of her...the movie has a couple afterschool special type moments but overall its a fairly hard hitting piece of work and has a great ending

    6.5/10

the help - one million times more emotional than the overrated descendants...got to like a movie that makes you mad sad and happy all at the same time...it was a little too long and too convienant at times but a very good film overall

    7/10

Adjustment Bureau. Absolutely terrible, no idea how that piece of crap was over 70% on rotten tomatoes.

Amen. Saw this on On Demand last night. My wife looked it up on IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes afterward and was shocked to see it was 72%. The movie was just absolutely dreadful. Matt Damon overacted nearly every scene. And it's not just that the movie made no sense, but it was so completely beyond plausible that it just was ridiculous. It was as if the film crew just wanted to see all the cool places they could film around New York City. Oh look, outfield of Yankee Stadium! Base of the Statue of Liberty!!

  • Watched The American on HBO on demand last night to get over the Terps hangover. Nice escape to Italy, Pretty good watch. Got to give props to Clooney in his workout scenes.

Nice pull. I remember that flick from my childhood. Didn't they rescue some crazy guy who turned out to be the devil? Few other small obscure flicks that frightned me as a boy. Horror Express, Let's Scare Jessica to Death, Burnt Offerings. I'm sure they're all awful now, but for whatever reason each of these freaked my out for one reason or another years ago.

  • Four Lions: English comedy about terrorists. Some of the references were lost on me but it was pretty funny and a unique ground for comedy.

    Play

    Four Lions Trailer

Four Lions official trailer. Four Lions tells the story of a group of British jihadists who push their abstract dreams of glory to the breaking point. As the wheels fly off, and their competing ideologies clash, what emerges is an emotionally engaging (and entirely plausible) farce. In a storm of razor-sharp verbal jousting and large-scale set pieces, Four Lions is a comic tour de force; it shows that-while terrorism is about ideology-it can also be about idiots.

    Adjustment Bureau

I didn't think it was nearly as bad as reviews made it seem. In fact, I thought it was decent. It was one of those movies that left you thinking it could have been much better than it was though.

Agreed on all points. Damon was good.

Probably my favorite of the year.

Though I had a long discussion with someone about the meaning of the ending and how whatever meaning you take from it affects the meaning of the entire movie.

Please share them. I really don't know what to think about the ending

Just watched it and would agree that how you see the ending does change how/what the movie was about

  • Have seen the first 2 of a 3 disc set - Ken Russell at the BBC. It's a collection of made-for-television documentaries on the lives of notable 19th and 20th century artists. I always liked Russell's films but think I like these TV productions even more. Maybe because smaller budgets kept him from going too far over the top

  • Illegal in Blue (1995) - horribly written, directed, acted and filmed, this detective noir drama is saved only by the soft core porn oozing down every scene, like on the seat in a poorly lit peepshow booth after a hot ATM clip.

I like Simon Pegg, and it got decent reviews. Not a big fan though.

  • In Time - okay, I like the concept and the bad pun it brings to mind, "Time is money."

But a lout from the ghetto suddenly turns into James Bond, then in a rollover in a freaking Barbie sized convertible WITH NO SEAT BELTS, they have a couple of scratches? Then they make a phone call, and this guy from far in the future tells her to "dial" the phone? Really? When dial phones are likely centuries in the past? Ridiculous, terrible writing. Fugging time socialists.

  • Where is eam? I want to hear more about this "Endgame" that he apparently watched recently, according to Facebook. Lester Freamon as Nelson Mandela? I'm intrigued.

  • It's been an interesting night on TCM. First they aired The Man Who Would be King, a classic with Sean Connery/Michael Caine, and now they are airing Lawrence of Arabia (which is very long and better viewed in a theater.)

  • Enjoyed both 50-50 and Drive immensely. Fell asleep halfway through Green Lantern, but I guess it was ok enough that I'll watch the second half on the flight back.

  • Birdemic: Shock and Terror.

Incredible. Pure insanity. Might be the worst movie of all time. It's on Netflix streaming so there is no excuse to not watch this.

Both of these were awesome. Drive is probably my favorite movie of the year so far, and 50/50 can double for a chick flick as well if youre looking for something to watch with the wife/gf.

It really is a great. I can't recommend Troll 2 enough, which I believe is also on netflix streaming, for a similar experience.
