Movies that you recently watched not in the movie theatre

  • The Adjustment Bureau was just awful. Couldn't even watch the last half hour. Even my girlfriend wanted to turn it off and she'll watch anything.

    strOterp

  • Your Highness. Wow, did mainly everything miss its mark. Not even Natalie Portman's ass could save this one.

  • Thor was sooooooooo bad. So bad. I can't reiterate that enough. So. Bad.

Paul was disappointing considering how good Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead were.

  • A friend of my wife loaned her the Cowboys and Aliens blu-ray. I really didn't want to watch it, but she persuaded me. The winning argument was: "If it sucks, then we know never to trust her movie recommendations ever again."

It sucked. It sucked out loud. It was a waste of two hours. In sum, it was exactly what I expected.

    No Edgar Wright IIRC.

BTW, I noticed this weekend that Spaced is on netflix instant. So awesome.

  • Hangover II = not funny. I wasn't surprised as I had heard enough reviews from friends, but I was angered by the laziness of it. So dumb.

Im ready for aa 5th of vodica to end my feels.

Really enjoyed Crazy, Stupid, Love. Kinda tails off in the end (except for a fantastic last scene with "Blood" by Middle East), and the kid was pretty annoying and unlikable, but Gosling and Carrell are fantastic.

Just watched Midnight in Paris. Very funny, very Woody. Definitely confirms my desire to live there for a year or two.

Agreed. Crazy Stupid Love is a really good movie. Highly recommended.

Just saw Fargo for the first time. Like the deadpan humor but didn't think it quite lived up to the billing.

I wish I hadn't used all my downvotes in the Tebow thread. I'll get to you tomorrow.

  • "The Help"

Watched over the weekend, and thought it was very good. Story about the lives of black maids/families working for white families circa early 60's in Jackson, Mississippi.

  • I'm really tempted to start an "Above The Rim" thread.

Holy shit, this movie has everything.

Tupac, Marlon Wayans, Avon Barksdale straight fucking people up, the captain of the Jamaican bobsled team with the sweetest jumper I've ever seen, Georgetown being good references.

    I love it.

Edit: OMG THEY JUST SHOT AVON

  • If you think I don't own the Above the Rim soundtrack, you're a stupid piece of Rangoon.

  • I was just about to mention the soundtrack. The movie really is a hidden gem. Above the Law gets alot more discussion and critical analysis (and it is a fine movie in its own right), but it is NOT the best of the "above the" movies

    neal990

  • Super 8 = outstanding

  • "Marked for Death" makes "Above the Law" look like "On Deadly Ground".

  • Apollo 18. The 'recovered footage' style is annoying but a common technique. The story's not very complicated, but the characters are likeable, and harken back to the heroic Apollo astronauts I saw and read about as a young adult, so I could relate and found them realistic. All in all it was enjoyable, though I'm glad I didn't see it in a theatre, as that kind of film would give me motion sickness.

    Not a bad horror film.

  • Outlaw Josie Wales, Silverado, Young Guns and Young Guns II will be next during the Ravens Game. EPIC Day of Westerns, 4 of my favorite movies of all time.

    Pic Sigs are for losers.

  • I saw My Left Foot. It was a pretty good movie, but I wasn't blown away.

But holy bajeezus DDL was nuts in that movie. That restaurant scene was incredible

I just embarrassed myself with this post

I paid money to see that movie. I hated it. The camera work was unbelievably annoying, even worse so than your run of the mill "found film" movies because they shot it as though it was the 1960s. I felt like a dog watching the Zapruder Film.

Yeah, if I saw it for 9 or 10 bucks, I'd be unhappy, but it was fine for nothing. Of course, I'm a fan of crappy horror movies, so my taste might be off anyway.
